Ovarian Cyst Pregnancy
It's a big surprise when a pregnant woman comes into the doctor's office for a routine prenatal check-up and comes out learning that she's got an ovarian cyst, pregnancy, and a growing fetus to deal with. This would, of course, cause unnecessary stress on the woman and consequently, on the growing fetus as she might think that this would gravely affect the pregnancy. Indeed, a growing baby is already a handful, so no woman needs another growth inside her to deal with. However, with knowledge comes hope and reassurance, especially when it's about ovarian cyst pregnancy. Learning more about this abnormal growth will relieve the mother and give her the chance to be able to handle the situation calmly.
Corpus Luteum Cyst
So what is this type of ovarian cyst pregnancy? Corpus luteum cysts develop from the follicle, which the egg had burst out of from the ovary. It is supposed to dissolve on its own as the fetus grows in the womb, but there are some instances when it just fills up with fluid and continues to grow.
Having this ovarian cyst pregnancy does not actually hinder the pregnancy, but it does have to be constantly observed. There are some cases when it just shrinks on its own after a few weeks, and there are others when it just won't go away.
Symptoms
The ovarian cyst pregnancy, or corpus luteum cyst, will, most of the time, not cause symptoms. As it grows after the woman's menstrual cycle, it also resolved on its own little by little without treatment by the second trimester (between four and six months) of pregnancy.
On the other hand, there are some cases of ovarian cyst pregnancy when the corpus luteum just continues to enlarge. It does this by filling up with more blood and fluids. When this happens, it could still present no symptoms, or it could cause mild to moderate pain on the woman.
What's worse is that it can twist around the ovary, cutting off the blood supply for the fetus, which would then require surgery for its removal. Sharp pain where the ovarian cyst pregnancy is located signals that there has been a rupture.
When To Seek Emergency Care
Pregnant women who have ovarian cyst pregnancy do not need to be overly worried of their situation. Unless complications such as extreme pain and bleeding would occur, then things are generally just fine. This means that the symptoms are only mild and can be treated at home with pain relievers as prescribed by the doctor. The woman's daily activities need not be altered, as well. However, there are some doctors who would recommend complete abstinence from sex until the corpus luteum cyst would decrease in size as the activity may cause it to rupture.
Pregnant women with corpus luteum cysts should not be troubled with ovarian cyst pregnancy. Should there be treatment and activity restrictions, it is best to be discussed with the doctor. Even with an ovarian cyst, pregnancy need not be threatened with early detection and the right treatment plan.
