Understanding Ovarian Cancer

I live in the UK, and Ovacome provides help, support and advice for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, as well as their family and friends.

They produce a regular newsletter which highlights personal experiences as well as the latest advances in treatment and diagnosis. It's well worth a look.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1 - Buy an ovarian cancer ribbon (or even better, buy lots and sell them to raise even more funds).

2 - Spread the word about Ovacome - particularly if you live in the UK.

There is actually more than one type of ovarian cancer, and the Ovarian Cancer Action website explains in clear and understandable detail what each type is.

This website is devoted to raising awareness of ovarian cancer in women. Of all the types of cancer there are, ovarian cancer is the fourth biggest killer in women. Thus awareness of symptoms (not always easy to spot for this type of cancer, which is why it's known as the 'silent killer') is absolutely vital in both the short and long term.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1 - Recycle your old mobile phones and ink cartridges and help save lives as well as the environment.

2 - Sell pin badges to raise funds and raise awareness in a simple but effective way.

3 - Simply donate whatever you can to help Ovarian Cancer Action keep on doing what they do best.

4 - You guessed it - help me to raise awareness of this lens. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your workmates. Let's get this lens seen by as many people as possible - after all, it's not just money that can make a difference; sharing, educating and learning all help enormously too.

The Eve Appeal raises funds to pay for much needed research into the four gynaecological cancers.

Ovarian cancer is notoriously hard to spot in its early stages - quite often, by the time it makes itself known it has already spread and the chances of survival drop alarmingly.

Yet if it is caught early the survival rates stand at 95%.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1 - Buy a pin badge - a small donation makes a big difference, and you can wear your stunning badge with pride.

2 - Make a donation by post, phone or online - big or small, every penny counts.

3 - Share your story - the Media Centre section has case studies to read, and if you have an experience to share, the Eve Appeal would be glad to hear from you.
