Why should we learn more about this disease?

Back in 1983, when I was eleven, I lost my mum to ovarian cancer - the 'silent' cancer. She was just forty nine.

I'm now thirty five, and there is still a huge void in my life where my mum should be. I felt I wanted to do something positive in her memory, and where better place to do that than on Squidoo?

All royalties generated by this lens will go to the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation, so you have already done something wonderful already simply by arriving on this page. For that I thank you - and while you're here, you might just find some other goodies and reasons for staying on a while longer.

You can help still more by rating this lens and leaving a message in the guestbook at the bottom of the page - and if you can help me spread the word by linking to this lens from your own, or from your blog or website, I would be eternally grateful.

Positive things really can come out of negatives.

If every single person that comes by this lens tells one other person about it, and that person does the same, imagine how much we could do together to let people know about this type of women's cancer, and to raise money to help move towards eradicating it.

For good.

About OVARIAN.ORG.UK

The Cancer Action website

There is actually more than one type of ovarian cancer, and the Ovarian Cancer Action website explains in clear and understandable detail what each type is.

This website is devoted to raising awareness of ovarian cancer in women. Of all the types of cancer there are, ovarian cancer is the fourth biggest killer in women. Thus awareness of symptoms (not always easy to spot for this type of cancer, which is why it's known as the 'silent killer') is absolutely vital in both the short and long term.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1 - Recycle your old mobile phones and ink cartridges and help save lives as well as the environment.

2 - Sell pin badges to raise funds and raise awareness in a simple but effective way.

3 - Simply donate whatever you can to help Ovarian Cancer Action keep on doing what they do best.

4 - You guessed it - help me to raise awareness of this lens. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your workmates. Let's get this lens seen by as many people as possible - after all, it's not just money that can make a difference; sharing, educating and learning all help enormously too.

Thank you.

About EVEAPPEAL.ORG.UK

The Eve Appeal

The Eve Appeal raises funds to pay for much needed research into the four gynaecological cancers.

Ovarian cancer is notoriously hard to spot in its early stages - quite often, by the time it makes itself known it has already spread and the chances of survival drop alarmingly.

Yet if it is caught early the survival rates stand at 95%.

research that is going on, and also lists the celebrity supporters of the charity.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1 - Buy a pin badge - a small donation makes a big difference, and you can wear your stunning badge with pride.

2 - Make a donation by post, phone or online - big or small, every penny counts.

3 - Share your story - the Media Centre section has case studies to read, and if you have an experience to share, the Eve Appeal would be glad to hear from you.

4 - Spread the word - not all support is financial in nature. What can you do to help?

Whatever it may be, thank you.

Thank you. It won't bring my mum back, and it won't save the lives of those who have already succumbed to this disease. But it WILL help thousands more escape its clutches.

The mission of the Prevent Cancer Foundation is cancer prevention and early detection through research, education and community outreach to all populations, including children and the underserved.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.

Well done. Every bit of publicity is good. I've had ovarian cancer for 6 years. I have had 2 tumours removed and live with an inoperable third. I'm not able to go on walks etc to raise awareness but I did the Eve Appeal dvd and have donated blood to Prof Jacobs' research.
