Overactive Sweat Glands: A Young Girl's Story

There is a young twelve year old girl sitting at the corner of the school yard with her friends trying to fit in, dealing with all the issues adolescents have to deal with - peer pressure, boys, in-crowds, out-crowds, grades - the list is endless and very trying.
Do you see her?

She is just an average twelve year old. There is nothing wrong with her as far as anyone can tell. But ...

This particular girl is shy and doesn't socialize as much as she should. She is smart and has friends but she is not comfortable in her own skin. Why?

Because she is embarrassed to hold anybody's hand, change into her gym clothes at school, or engage in any activities that will cause her to sweat.

You see, at the young age of twelve, this little girl has noticed that she sweats a lot, more than the people around her. Her palms are always wet and she has noticed that when she holds someone's hand, it is not too long before they let go with a comment about how sweaty her hands her.

Before gym class, while changing in the locker room, comments have been made about the stink of someone's sneakers - she knows that they are referring to her but just won't say anything directly. She has noticed that her feet sweat a lot and that her sneakers don't smell very good even after having just bought them.

She always showers extra long, wears extra deodorant, and tries not to run around too much, but her body still sweats a lot. She is embarrassed and doesn't know what to do. She wonders what is wrong with her, but will not ask for help. She just keeps a low profile and hopes that nobody will notice the big sweat stains on her shirts or the stink of her shoes.

To the average on-looker, she is just a little shy. But she actually has a real medical problem.

That young girl is me, and I have decided to share my experience with all of you to bring attention to a real problem that many people face. A problem that you may be facing right now!

You are not alone and there is help available!

The Real Problem: Hyperhidrosis

The problem of overactive sweat glands is called Hyperhidrosis. According to medical journals, Hyperhidrosis is a disorder characterized by overactive sweat glands causing perspiration in excess of the body's true needs. There are two main types of Hyperhidrosis - primary or secondary.

Primary Hyperhidrosis is a chronic disease that has no known cause. It is associated with over activity of the nervous system that controls your sweat glands and it can affect isolated portions or all areas of your body.

Secondary Hyperhidrosis is not caused by a malfunction of the nervous system, but rather by some other underlying condition, such as infection, spinal cord injury, cardiovascular or respiratory disorder, anxiety, or stress.

Primary Hyperhidrosis is the one that I have and that many other people have as well. In fact, it is very common and is documented to affect almost 3% of the United States population. The disease affects both children and adults and has been documented to affect males and females equally.

The most common areas where the overactive sweat glands are located on the body include the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet, the arm pits, the face, and scalp.

Doctors refer the over activity of sweat glands in specific body areas by different names. However, personal experience has showed me that the probability of suffering from overactive sweat glands in multiple, if not all the common areas, is more probable than suffering from over activity in isolated areas.

"I wish I could just hold someone's hand without even worrying about
what they're going to think about me if I start dripping.''

A natural, effective cure for overactive sweat glands is available. Stop the embarrassment and start living again!

Overactive Sweat Glands: Why Do I Have Them?

The cause of Primary Hyperhidrosis is medically unknown. The disease remains largely under diagnosed and under treated, particularly among young people.

A study conducted by Edward Kessler, B.A., Katherine Flanagan, M.D. and Dee Anna Glaser, M.D. in the Department of Dermatogoly of Saint Louis University in St. Louis Missouri concluded that onset of the disease at an early age (prior to the age of 20) directly correlates with family history.

The study also found that 50% of the patients evaluated had a positive family history of the disease.

So, the bottom line is very similar to many other diseases, you may be predisposed to having overactive sweat glands because of your genes.

Talk to your parents and other family members to see if anyone else in the family suffers from overactive sweat glands. They may not know what hyperhidrosis is or that they even have it. But they will be able to tell you stories about their sweaty hands, feet, or armpits that can lead you to conclude that although they were not diagnosed for the disease, they are affected by it.

So What's The Impact, Anyway?

Diagnosing overactive sweat glands early and learning to manage it early can significantly improve your quality of life.

This disorder can be detrimental to a person's social, professional, psychological, and physical well-being.

My story as a young girl is only one of the many similar stories out there that have led to social disorders, problems with career advancement, and many other psychological and physical problems.

Learn all you can about the disease and the medical and natural treatments for it.

Whether you are the parent of a child who suffers from overactive sweat glands or are subject to the disorder yourself, I recommend you discuss the disorder, talk to a doctor to understand the medical treatment options and, investigate natural cure options as well.

In my opinion, natural options are always a better choice because of the side effects caused by traditional medical treatments. You have done a brilliant job on your lens. My husband suffers from this. It has been a bit of a trial for him as a sales rep. He's always worried about a good first impression with a prospective customer. Several of the nieces and nephews on his side also have the same problem. They were born with it and some are worse than others. My husband's is worse than in the kids. Thank goodness they didn't get it as bad as he.

I think it's wonderful that you share your story to help others.
