The First two Steps:
1: Honesty
2: Journal Writing
Honesty
Honesty may seem rudimentary and non-essential. But it's not.It is essential if you want to stop binge eating. If you avoid WHY you overeat; your reasons will always be waiting for you when you feel weak.
First
First you need to be honest about why you overeat. You have to admit that you have a problem that needs solved.
Not that something is wrong with you; but that your actions have led you down a path that you longer want.
Second
Find the real reason you turned to food in the first place.
It may have started when you were young... or maybe some other pivotal point in your life.
When you have a "traumatizing" experiences you develop BELIEFS about yourself and the world. These beliefs dictate your emotions and actions.
If someone was molested as a child they may have taken on a belief of being worthless.
If you believe: "I am worthless".... You may have these emotions:
*depressed
*sad
*lonely
Your actions will also support your belief of being worthless. You may:
*keep yourself isolated
*take comfort in food
*unconsciously sabotage relationships
Being honest with yourself can help better understand what beliefs drive you to overeat.
Knowing your core beliefs is the first step to changing them. Journal writing is the best way to enable your ability to be honest with yourself and overcome binge eating.
Journal Writing
Journal writing is an indispensable tool to learn more about yourself and why you turn to food.It enables you to reach you subconscious mind; where your reality is created.
Taking the time to write in your journal before you eat can save you a lot of depression and self hatred. You may decide not to eat that cake after all.
It feels so great to release your emotions onto paper instead of hiding them with food.
Even if you still decide to eat when you're not hungry you will have a wonderful tool at your disposal: Your Journal.
After you have done this for a while you will begin to see a pattern emerge.
You will learn WHY you turn to food.
Journal writing will be your best guide to overcome binge eating.
If you feel stuck when you're writing in your journal; try writing with your non-dominant hand. It may take longer... but your subconscious mind will flow easier this way without interference from logic.
