I've been trying to learn how to respond and not react. The 5 seconds to breathe helps. Seems to get the brain thinking better!
    Thanks for your tips.

    Hi Sandy,

Luckily for me, my wife bears no resemblance to 2000 pounds of stomping horse flesh...I wish the same could be said for me!

Nevertheless, I appreciate the positive comments from you and everyone else here. This lens was a fun one to write, because I knew it would help at least one person to manage their next challenge a little bit better.

Excellent advice! I am on the road alot hauling horses to and from competitions. So much can go wrong but if you are prepared and keep a calm mind you can handle the situation. Having a trailer tire blow out on a busy interstate hiway in 90 degree heat with 2000 lbs. of stomping horse flesh in the trailer is not much fun. But if you know how to handle it and stay calm and focused you'll have the tire changed and you are back on the road in no-time at all. I am a big believer in preventative maintenance.

Great Article. This should be read everyday. We all have small and large "bumps" in the road almost daily whether its being stopped by a red light or traffic cop we need these words in our tool box.
Thanks for putting it into words.

I really like the 5 second centering rule, for me that is just enough time to avoid a kneejerk rection and to assess the situation at hand! Taking that 5 seconds is also very self revealing. Cheers

Beautiful lens, Lane. My favorite part is "Look For The Lesson". If we don't learn from our experiences we'll get to keep repeating them until we do.

This is the mindset of a true leader - in life and business - we have the choice to learn and grow or stagnate and moan. You inspire me!

Tremendous work here Lane. I appreciate the broad view, life in-general, and the narrowing into how it relates to business. I think I need to take lessons from you on video production. Thanks.
