My seven year old grand-daughter, "Babycakes" just loves them. Oh, not real birds, but the symbol of the owl. Why? Mostly because her school's mascot is this wise bird. Who knows, maybe the fascination and admiration will last to her college days and she could pledge MY sorority and not her mom's. Hope so--I have been saving my pin for several decades now.
So how did some of our beliefs about the owl begin? Well, Native Americans associated the meaning of owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge.

One reason I have liked owls for decades is because I was in the sorority Chi Omega. One of the symbols of this organization was the owl. Cannot tell you why--one of those "secret" things, you know. I really enjoyed being in this collegiate sorority and have been donating to its foundation for many years.
Another reason I like the owl--it is easy to draw one. Make a "u"; connect the top points of the "u" with a "smile". Put in some eyes and a little "v" for a nose. Easy peasy.

- Smaller owls require less detail, whereas large owls will need a lot of "feathers".
- Put horn rimmed glasses on the owl to make it look "wiser".
- Use color pencils to make more detailed.
