My parents recently sent me two books that have inspired me to learn more about owls. In fact, the books inspired me to make this lens.

I hope you find this lens useful -- and I hope you go owling with your children soon!

Books about the Bird

What you need to read

I own these two books, and I highly recommend them. If you buy these two, you're off to a great start!

Owl Moon

This children's book -- a Caldecott winner -- is full of quiet, love, and family. It's a great introduction to owling for your children, and it's the first book you should buy.

North American Owls: Journey Through a Shadowed World

Jim Burns's photography is absolutely beautiful. And the information in this coffee-table book is extremely useful. But the real highligh is the CD of owl calls recorded by Debby Lewis. Play this CD for your child before you go owling!

Tools You Can Use

Assorted owl calls

GameCalls.net specializes in many different kinds of animal calls, but their most useful tools are the owl calls.

The online store offers about 10 different owl calls, as well as owl call recordings on CD and cassette. Despite its threatening name, the Devastator appears to be the best starter call.
