Build Your Own Home
Owner Builders are a growing niche of individuals that are self contracting their home building projects. They are taking design/build responsibility for the construction of their homes. This gives them control of the money, selections, and timetable for getting their dream home.
National builders have been making incredible profit margins on cookie cutter homes for many years. I know. I worked for one of the biggest for the last 2 1/2 years. For too long, big builders made the rules. " Yes you can have tile, it's a five thousand dollar upgrade."
Why can they do this? Well, building homes is no easy business and there is a mystery about the process that scares most people away from doing it themselves. No more.
That's what www.ownerbuilderonline.com is all about. Our goal is to Demystify the homebuilding process and give people tools to become successful owner builders.

Owner Builder Benefits
Fair enough, it isn't an easy task to build your own home. The benefits are tremendous though. An owner builder is in charge of where and what their home will be. When complete, an owner built home is really a castle. The owner builder is confident that their project was built with quality and care, because they ran the show. And statistics show that an owner builder can save between 15-40% on the overall cost of the home.
Can you imagine saving even 15% on the typical $250,000.00 home. Thirty seven thousand five hundred dollars is a full years salary for many people. That could go towards your retirement OR... you could build that much more home.
Is the extra effort worth it? Many thousands of Americans believe it is and are taking the plunge. Become an owner builder.

Jobsite Hints
Dealing with Crews
Remember, this is your project. You are not just the owner, you are the manager. Being a manager doesn't mean you have to know everything. That's why there are trades in the first place. Specialization in construction allows for the project manager to run the homebuilding process WITHOUT being a master tradesman.
Think about this when you approach a contractor with a concern. They work for you and you are overseeing the whole process. They should answer your concern and if you don't understand clearly, say so. Tap into their expertise and become more knowledgeable. They will appreciate your interest in their specialty and will also respect that you are taking time to actually be on the jobsite.
