What is Oxalic Acid?

Oxalic acid is a chemical compound of Hydrogen, Carbon & Oxygen.

The chemical formula of oxalic acid is H2C2O4.

It is a naturally occuring chemical found in many plants such as spinach and rhubarb, it is widely used in the woodworking trade for removing stains and freshening surfaces, boat maintenance - especially deck preservation, bee-keeping, as a treatment for the harmful Varroa mite and in a variety of DIY settings.

How is Oxalic Acid Used? 

When & Why Oxalic Acid is the Right Chemical for the Job.

Oxalic acid is made extensive use of in the woodworking and joinery trade. Unsightly stains on wooden floors and beams caused by age, exterior exposure or rust can be removed easily by using oxalic acid crystals.

Its applications are not only limited to wood. Oxalic acid can be used to treat, repair and polish other materials such as stone, marble and stainless steel.

Those who restore wooden furniture and antiques can use oxalic acid to freshen and lighten the wood after it has been stripped back.

Those working in automotive shops or working on their own vehicle can find a use for oxalic acid, especially in rust removal.

Fishermen utilise oxalic when preserving decks, maintaining wood and treating quays. Similarly, all boating enthusiasts will find this chemical useful.
