P90X and Tony Horton
For those of you who don't know what P90X (or Power 90 Extreme) is, it is a 90 day home workout system developed by Beach Body and Tony Horton. Horton also leads each of the workouts. This lens includes my review of the program, my top ten favorite Tony Horton quotes, and a great video on the back story of how Horton and Beach Body became so successful.
Review of P90X
Before I get started with my review, I think it is important to let you know a little about my fitness level. I am 24 years old, I played sports throughout high school, and club sports in college. Overall, I would say that my fitness level is an 8 out of 10 for an average adult.
The program consists of 12 different DVD workouts that each targeting different muscle groups in different ways. The 12 workouts are as follows:
1. Chest and back
2. Plyometrics
3. Shoulders and Arms
4. Yoga X
5. Legs and back
6. Kenpo X
7. X Stretch
8. Core Synergistics
9. Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps
10. Backs and biceps
11. Cardio X
12. Ab Ripper X
For the first three weeks you do the same workouts, and then the other workouts get worked in for the rest of the program. The total program is 6 days a week (about an hour a day) for 13 weeks.
There is also a strict diet plan that goes along with the workouts. I am a picky eater so I found this part the most difficult, but it is also the most important if you want to get results that you can see. The diet is broken down into three phases. For the first few weeks that diet is high protein, low carbs. The remaining two phases increase carb intake and lower protein intake.
For the most part P90X delivers on its promises. It is a difficult program, but if you are able to stay dedicated and follow the program, you will see results. It is certainly not a miracle workout program, nor does it claim to be; it requires a lot of hard work and commitment to be successful at it.
And remember, like I said, the diet is the most important part of the program. You may hear people complain about the program not giving them the results that they hoped for, but that is most likely because they only did the workouts without following the diet.
