HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Those who identify as Wiccan, Pagan or Neo-Pagan have the same rights to religious freedom as anyone else, and yet are continually discriminated against, lose their livelihoods and have their children taken away due to ignorance and fear.

WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ON THE MATTER?

Do you think modern-day Pagans experience discrimination based on religious opposition?

Sadly, Pagans & Wiccans do get discriminated against somewhat regularly.

LairMistress says:

Legally, NO religious group should be discriminated against; but many people get spooked by terms like "witchcraft" and "occult." They've been rather loaded terms for a long time, and trigger irrational fear in a lot of folks. I've been trying to educate myself about Wicca, shamanism and other Pagan belief systems for a long time; and I think more education and outreach is necessary for society in general to get over fear and ignorance. Blessed be!!

M_S_Beltran says:

I think people every group experiences discrimination at one time or another. When it's by an individual narrow-minded bigot, it's not a tragedy; but when it's by agents of the government or large businesses and agencies, it's quite disturbing. I don't believe it will ever go away entirely, but I do think that it's become less widespread, and that new generations growing up next door to openly Pagan families will begin to realize that while they might not agree with our beliefs, we don't warrent a gut-fear reaction and deserve the same courtesy, respect and rights as anyone else.

grannysage says:

Absolutely, although it is very hard to prove. But when people find out you are pagan, you start being treated differently. We have a long way to go.

I don't agree. This country really does have balanced religious freedom for all.

Pagan Religious Rights
Join us to celebrate a major victory for Pagan Religious Rights, now that we have secured the Veterans' Pentacle! Help us voice a further agenda for Pagan Religious Rights: We want a Pagan chaplain in the U.S. Armed Forces. And we need to keep the focus on the Department of Veterans Affairs to accept Thor's Hammer, religious emblem of the Asatruar, and the Druids' Awen symbol.
Our Freedom: A Pagan Civil Rights Coalition
Our Freedom: A Pagan Civil Rights Coalition consists of leaders and liaisons of national Pagan organizations and publications in America, as well as other key individuals who have a strong national presence.
Your Rights as a Pagan Parent
When it comes to raising our kids, it's sometimes hard to know what rights we have as Pagan or Wiccan parents. In the United States, we have the same rights as parents of any other religion. Learn how you can avoid discrimination in schools, simply by opening up the lines of communication.
The Pagan Awareness League-Pagan Rights-Students
Your Rights in Public Schools Schools in America today have become a battle ground for Religious Freedom. Many Pagans students in schools around the country find themselves under unfair and severe evaluation.
