It All Adds Up!

Welcome to Quick and Easy Paid Writing Sites! This lens was born when I needed a way to keep track of all of the sites that I've registered for in hopes of making small dabs of money here and there.

In February 2008, I noticed that my efforts at many of these sites (Squidoo included!) were starting to add up to real money each month. My Paypal account was growing greener with little deposits. Separately, they don't sound like much. Most of them are around $5 or so per month. But collectively, they are adding up to $20-$30 per month and growing rapidly.

And I'm not putting much effort into this. I check out links as I find them and sign up if it seems promising. Then I add some quick and easy content off the top of my head and stand back. I try to revisit these sites every week or so and add something new. I go on 'rounds' regularly, when I have a few moments to spare from my real job, and at many of the sites, I'm established well enough that a few weeks' hiatus doesn't seem to interfere with the residual income I'm earning.

These Sites Have Paid Me

Helium.com: Helium is a writing-and-rating site where quality writing rises in the field. So far, I've earned over $25 there.
Associated Content: I really like this one-I've earned over $150 here! Write articles on topics of your choice and submit. AC will offer you a payment which you can accept or reject. Once published, your work continues to earn bonuses based on traffic. It's turning into a nice 'residual' income for me even during months that I don't publish there.
Triond: Here's another good site for residual income. Post articles here and earn income based on page views. So far, I've earned $20.00. Update Feb. 2009: $27.23.
Bright Hub: This site is a bit more formal with their treatment of writers-there are deadlines, outlines, and more required. They pay $10 per short piece, mostly related to technology. Perhaps the best thing about working with them in my mind is that I'm learning a lot about SEO, tagging, and metadata, which is helping me with my own sites. Earnings as of Feb. 2009: $140.
Squidoo, of course!: I've earned nearly $37 from Squidoo so far.

Update as of November 2008: $78.12!

Promising Sites That I'm Hoping Will Pay Off

Reviewstream seems like a promising site. You can write quick reviews of just about anything and everything, and most will pay $2.00 plus ten cents per vote. One caution, however: Make sure that the email address you provided is actually working for them. They recommend setting up a separate Yahoo or Gmail address, and they're not kidding. I did several reviews on one of my existing addresses, and did not know to look for a confirmation of receipt email. As far as I can tell, those are lost somewhere in cyberspace. I set up the recommended Yahoo account, and now am receiving the confirmations almost instantly.

The payout here is $50, so it may be a bit before I reach that. I'm trying to do a review or two each day, but I'm also very patient. I'll keep you posted!

How To Do Things
This site seems to do an excellent job of promoting to viewers who use adsense. My Google hits have gone way up since posting here.

Get Going On Your Writing Career

Whether you are trying to become a writing professional or simply trying to make ends meet from home, the internet is full of opportunities for writers and would-be writers. If you can string coherent paragraphs together, there quite likely is a place where you can be paid for your writing.

Now, I'm not promising that you'll make millions, become famous, and retire to Easy Street. Writing as a career is demanding work and you need a combination of raw talent, a bit of training, persistence, and a dash of luck to make a living at it. However, nearly anyone can make pin money or supplemental income with just some effort and persistence. That's where this lens comes in. Check out all of the opportunities that I've found and that other visitors have shared. I'm sure that something here will be right for you.
