Need Pain Relief From Shoulder Tendonitis?

Pain relief for shoulder tendonitis is the first and foremost step most people need when dealing with this particularly painful condition of the shoulder.

This does not heal the injury which can be done but it will enable you to life your life with less problems to be able to take the steps you need for a more full recovery.

There are many methods to relieve pain from your shoulder with tendonitis but my advice would be not just to look for a reduction in pain only but for a long term solution to stop the underlying condition as fast as you can as well.

Here are some tips on pain relief you can use immediately though

Shoulder Tendonitis Pain Relief Tips

Reduce Swelling

On of the big problems with tendonitis is painful inflammation and swelling. The tendons that connect your muscle to bone that move your shoulder and arms have been damaged slightly and this leads to a lot of blood being sent to that location to repair it. This causes a blood engorged shoulder which is swollen and painful.

There are a few things you can do to reduce this swelling but not impact on the healing.

  • Cold packs - This is the simplest and easiest method that produces the best results. Applying a cold pack or compress to the painful swollen region of your shoulder tendonitis reduces the amount of blood flow to that area stopping the pain. This can also lead to a stiffer shoulder joint but the first step is the limit pain so this is essential.
  • Medication - If pain and inflammation persist you can take anti-inflammatory medicine and pain relievers but these are not good for the long term. Overuse of drugs can lead to mild addictions and a less realistic assessment of shoulder damage too.

Stop Movement

This is something you need to plan properly because stopping all movement of the shoulder is not good for your healing long term but it is helpful for pain relief.

Strapping your shoulder and arm can help lessen the pain when you need to which allows you to get on with life and initially after you find out you have tendonitis this is a good idea before more treatment. It is also a good idea when you sleep as when you sleep you may push your shoulder into an uncomfortable position which will make matters worse when you wake.

Remember though that stretching your shoulder is a part of recovery so do not just put your arm in a sling for weeks on end because this will actually stop your recovery efforts

Diet

There are a lot of foods that you can eat that will help you manage pain with shoulder tendonitits.

  • Fatty Acids - Foods such as tuna, salmon, nuts and seeds are high in fatty acids which are actually very good for you despite the word fatty being included. They contain anti-inflammatory properties that will help ease pain and swelling.
  • Herbs and Spices - Herbs and spices of all kinds contain antioxidants and some that contain powerful anti-inflammatory aspects such as chili, ginger and rosemary.
  • Sugar Free - High blood sugar increases inflammation so reducing sugar intake and also food intake that causes more blood sugar like white bread and pasta. Stick with complex carbohydrates that release control blood sugar levels better.
