An Episiotomy may actually cause more tearing!
You Do Not NEED An EPISIOTOMY!
Your Body Is Fully Capable!
This is generally done to expedite delivery or to prevent spontaneous tearing of the perineum as a controlled cut was often thought to heal better than a random tear. At one time, episiotomies were almost standard procedure in hospital births.
However, they have become somewhat controversial, due to the possibility of complications and research that has shown that episiotomies may actually increase pain and recovery time after childbirth. It is also said that an episiotomy may actually cause more tearing!

Top 10 Ways to Achieve This
1. RELAX! Meditations, relaxation and guided imagery are great ways to teach yourself how to stay, calm, centered and trusting of the birthing process.
2. SAY AFFIRMATIONS! During your pregnancy say affirmations daily while cooking, cleaning, exercising, driving or before bed. The use of affirmations nurtures the development of our higher intuitive selves.
3. RELEASE, RELEASE, RELEASE! Release on negative thought patterns and fears! You will become aware of negative thought patterns that form while saying your affirmations. It is extremely important to recognize the thought and identify the fear. Next, release it! One of several ways to release on fears is through imagery. Imagine yourself holding balloons that have each of your fears written on them and simply letting them go one by one.
4. DO NOT RESIST! Remember the old saying what we resist will persist? Well this is so very true and is definitely not forgotten by the universe when you are giving birth. Do not fight it by tensing up this is what creates "pain." Remember your relaxation and affirmations!
5. REMAIN CENTERED! Stay in the present moment. Experience the birth of your baby the way you always dreamed of. Do not get caught up in worrying about what "could" happen or what "did" happen to aunt Brenda when she gave birth. Stay in the "now" this is YOUR experience! It simply is a choice, painful or not?
6. PRACTICE MAKES US BETTER! Practice your meditations, affirmations, and breathing daily! The more you do these things the more you begin to train your subconscious into the "knowing" that you WILL and CAN have a painless birth! It becomes a healthy, positive habit and what you focus on most is you will inevitably will attract in.
7. GET CLEAR WITH YOURSELF! Journal the type of experience you would like to have during the birth of your baby. Really get into great detail of exactly what kind of experience you want to have. Do you want a hospital or home birth? Maybe you want certain people to be there for you on that special day. How long do you want your birth to be and how easy? What position do you want deliver in? Is it going to be peaceful with soft music or will the family be there chatting and enjoying themselves? Its all up to you! You can have the birth that you want so choose it and get clear with yourself!
8.CONSIDER A DOULA. A Doula can take a lot of stress off of you and your partner! Your Doula acts as an extension of you and will deal with the doctors and technical stuff while you are able to stay relaxed.
9. GET SUPPORT! Finding a support system is crucial. This may be through friends, family, the right care providers and Internet groups.
10. TAKE CARE! Soak your feet, get a prenatal massage, connect with your baby. Get herbal and homeopathic remedies to relieve prenatal and postnatal ailments. Help integrate emotional, spiritual and physical participation in labor and delivery, as well as stimulate clarity of purpose and inner strength with Flower Essences:
Improve physical and mental endurance necessary for labor
Facilitate an easy and positive childbirth experience
Bring energy and stamina for the strenuous process of labor
Alleviate stress, self-doubt and hopelessness

- Giving birth should be a positive experience, I agree. However, what happens when a mother has given birth to an infant with birth defects? The impact could be devastating not only for the mother but for the baby as well. That is why most mothers would do anything to avoid birth defects. However, some pharmaceuticals make a mockery of this by withholding information that their drug could be harmful during pregnancy. The anticonvulsant Topamax is one. Already in the market for 15 years, the drug has recently been found out to cause birth defects. Affected families could seek compensation via the Topamax birth defects lawsuit.

- I'm reallly looking forward to the hypnobirthing course I just booked onto. I have been inspired by tales of a natural birth, and although it may not be totally pain free (as magicgenie points out) I think it is still worth it to be able to avoid all the meds they give you normally. Looking forward to giving my bump the best start in life :)

- Just remember, everything in life is a choice, whether subconscious or conscious we are always making decisions. This includes having easy/hard painful/painfreee births. It is best to reach deep in your subconscious and release fears and beliefs that are there about labor and delivery. The key is to not get yourself attached to the outcome. Have a goal but be okay with whatever happens. When we attach ourselves to an outcome we are putting out a needy type of energy which can ultimately attract the opposite of what you want. Best of luck to you!
