Arriving at the field:
First, If you are a regular player with your own gear let me suggest you look over "10 Things You Need in Your Gear Bag." If you are considering your first trip to a paintball field you might want to review "Don't Fear the Rental Gun."Park where you are suppose to park! Ok - let me stop here and say, some of these tips are pretty obvious, almost silly. You would be amazed how much of this stuff is missed by new and even experienced players. Bear with me.
If the field is "Field Paint Only" be sure to empty your hopper and pods of non-field paint.

Check in.
If you are a new player don't expect to immediately be handed a gun. If you have your own gear don't immediately start spreading it out. Go say "Hello," and sign in. (There should be a player waiver to sign.) Ask if any of the tables are reserved. And when you do start spreading out your gear don't cover more table area than necessary. Most fields don't have an abundance of table space. Share it.
Oh, and Mom and Dad. Keep the kids under control. Don't let them throw paint at cars or buildings or signs or each other. Thank you.

Consider fellow players
Don't hold up your group by taking forever to set up your gear. Get your gun safety checked as soon as you can. If it's going to take some time to get your gun tuned (or fixed) tell your ref to start without you. And never, I repeat never, test fire your marker in the safe area. Do your testing in an approved area.If you are renting be sure you understand all the safety functions of your marker. ASK if you are not sure about something. Don't test the safety or pull the barrel blocking device to look down the barrel.
Introduce yourself to your group if you are playing with people you don't know. Don't be afraid to tell the group you are new player or new to the field.
A word about "Field Paint Only."
"Why can't I bring my own paintballs?" is one of the most asked questions at commercial fields. The answer is simple. Paintball fields are like any business and need to make a profit in order to exist. For the extra cost of field paint you get fresh paint, more players, unbiased referees and most important of all - a safe place to play. (Find another field if this is not the case.)
On the Field:
KEEP YOUR MASK ON while on the playing field. So basic and so simple. There are people out there with guns! If that's not enough to convince you consider this; paintballs are flying nearly twice the speed of a major league fast ball. You're not going to see it coming and you may end up never seeing again.Make sure your mask fits and your hopper is full. Don't wait till your group is ready to go out on the field to ask for paint or to ask for help adjusting or cleaning your mask.

Don't touch other player's stuff. And be careful when grabbing things in a hurry. A lot of masks look just like yours and one 500 round bag of paint looks like every other. Be sure you are grabbing your own stuff.
GAME ON!
Call paint checks on your self. Not on fellow players. Assume your opponent is playing fairly. If you suspect a problem bring it to the refs attention during a break.
Don't argue with the refs. Even the best one is going to miss an occasional call. Wait till the game is over to bring up a question or concern. If you have a problem with a ref talk to the field manager or owner.
Don't ask a ref for help if your mask fogs during play (unless you need help getting off the field). The ref has no magic formula that he can use while you are playing. They are not allowed to lift your mask and clean it. Play through it or leave the field.
Show common courtesy
When the game ends safety your marker and replace the barrel blocking device. Do not continue shooting. Do not test fire. If you are having trouble with your marker wait till you get to the safe area.
Paintball Etiquette? Or PC?
Here's a paintball etiquette question. Or is it more inline with political correctness?
Checking Out:
Clean up after yourself. Break down your paintball boxes.Thank your refs. Feel free to tip them a few dollars. And thank your host,
OR
If there were problems don't leave grumbling under your breath.
Any field owner worth a darn will appreciate hearing about problems. I have a sign visible on the way out that reads, "If you had fun tell a friend. If you didn't tell the manager now!"
And if the field has an on site pro-shop be sure to pay a visit. By supporting your local field you will insure always having a place to play.

- I have only been playing a couple of months. When I started about was using others ego, etek... and such I would shoot a few off right before the game just to how it was shooting. Now that I have my ego I usaully don't worry about it because they have always been straight.. so far. :-)

- Good information for new players. I have to agree with alex though about the "nervous tournament players" thing shooting there guns before a game. Typically I will do this just to make sure everythings working right before they start the game.
