Finished painting project, from idea to final product

The following is one of my latest decorative wall paintings, pictured and described step-by-step.

The reason you came across this lense is, you're likely to find an answer to one of your painting-related questions or - even better - one of my pictures or sentences might spark your own idea to do something creative with a paint brush and a bit of a color in your favorite shade.

Either way, I wish you the best of success and fun! I now have to go and start another project, turn it from theory into practice and than share it with everyone who might be interested.

Enjoy!

Paint decorating ideas

I actually considered several different shapes to be painted - before making my final choice. I printed them all, cut out of the paper and tried them on the wall. On the photos below there are five of them. Just to give you an idea.

This is a good way to find out what would look best because some shapes look good on computer screen but are not all that recognizable on the wall. Or they just don't fit.

Idea #5

Tracing first dove on the wall. If your walls are textured, this part might be a bit challenging.

Tracing second dove on the wall. I realize this one can hardly be seen but I wanted to include every step.

With fine brush and steady hand, this part is easy. Try to make the outside line look as smooth as possible.

(I always liked coloring books as a child). Try to fill the shape you're painting with color so that strokes aren't visible.

Some answers to - how to paint a wall

It doesn't have to be perfect and don't even expect for your first project to turn out so stunning that everyone would be amazed.

It doesn't matter!

Go choose your color palette, grab some paintbrushes and put some color on that wall. Under one condition - you have to have fun!

Some more things to consider before starting the DIY painting job:

  • sturdy, safe ladder is a must

  • cover the floors and furniture - newspaper is fine

  • choose quality paints and tools, not the cheapest ones

  • use warm soapy water to wash the window sills, door trims, baseboards, paneling and such - they just might look so clean afterwords that you won't have to repaint them

  • keep your pets away from painting areas and prevent them from messing up themselves or your (almost) finished painting project

Decorating tips, not directions

Everything you've seen so far is not meant to direct you in any way. I am a very practical person and usually discover my own ways to do things. They work for me - until I find a better way and might or might not be good for you.

But, guess what!

I am more than happy knowing that scanning through my lense you've had an idea that made you feel really excited. Perhaps so much so that you're already planning a project of your own...

As always, other people are coming up with their own creative ways and some of them I really like and that's the reason I'm sharing them with you.

Have a wider perspective and then make your choices.
