Painting a Dewdrop
The following suggestions are for oil or acrylic paint.
See the sites listed below for more ideas and also for watercolor. painting.
The demo was painted with a a darker shade of the base color of the main object for the shadow areas and a lighter shade of the base color for the absorbed light area. White was applied for the highlight.
Before starting to paint, an oval was lightly drawn with a pencil and the direction of the light source was determined.
Procedure:
1. A narrow cast shadow outside of the oval which is opposite the light source.
2. A crescent-shaped shadow area where the light enters the dewdrop, the
shadow area being about 1/3 the size of the drop with a very soft edge.
3. The absorbed light area opposite the source of light also crescent shaped
with a soft edge.
4. A white hightlight where the light hits the dewdrop.
