Painting Tips - Grass in Landscapes
Painting tips on techniques for grass in a
conventional landscape. Like other areas
of a landscape painting, grass follows the
same rules of perspective and, in the far
distance, the blades of grass cannot be
seen. The colors of grassy areas are faded.
The list of links added to this lens are
free online instructional sites for
distance grass and close-up detail grass.
Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.

How To Paint Grass in a Conventional Landscape Painting
Perspective: In the landscape painting, perspective in grassy areas is achieved through color, direction of grass masses, and the size of the strokes.
Point of interest: If the area of interest is near the center of the canvas with a grouping of buildings or other subject matter, care should be taken that the foreground detail does not take away from the focal point of the painting.
Applying the paint: In the far distance, only the top of grass can be seen and there is no indication of blades of grass. Tapping the area with a soft brush, using faded colors, will indicate atmospheric effects of distance. In the middle area, upwards strokes can be applied with a soft brush, using a variety of greens. Coming closer to the viewer, stronger colors should be used but applying any detail should not take the eye away from the main point of the picture. More detail of grass blades can be seen along edges such as roads.
