How to Paint Ocean Scenes

This is one suggestion for painting the ocean in a lighthouse painting - How I painted this scene. You will develop your own style when studying the suggestions in the websites below. I used the colors which were used in the sky.

Sky colors:
Mix 1 - Cerulean Blue, White, and a touch of Payne's Gray.
When using acrylic paints, a retarding medium manufactured to be used with
your choice of acrylics can be added to slow down the drying time.
Working down toward the horizon, more white was added along with a touch of Cadmium Red Medium.

Ocean colors:
A touch of Cadmium Red Medium was added to Mix 1 to darken the ocean color.
While the paint was still wet, Mix 1 was then blended into the ocean coming forward. Small horiizontal strokes of white were used to indicate small waves which appear larger as they come nearer, as further objects appear smaller when drawn in perspective.
