Atmosphere, which consists of rapper "Slug,"(Sean Daley, "Slug" stands for "Sean Likes Ugly Girls) and producer "Ant," has been ripping up the world of underground hip hop since they hit the scene over ten years ago. You can hear the dedication and love for the art on every track of their albums.
Atmosphere is on the label Rhymesayers along with Brother Ali, Abstract Rude and many other underground hip hop artists from Minneapolis Minnesota and around the country. Slug continually shows his love for his work and his dedication to his fans. Many artists you will wait years and years between major album releases, which is also true with Slug, but he has a way of always pleasing his fans by releasing several smaller albums in between major releases. Last winter (07') Slug released a Christmas present to all his fans, a 12 track album "Strictly Leakage," for absolutely free.
On this lens you will find a comprehensive collection of Atmosphere's discography with individual reviews on each and every one of his albums, and links to other lenses I have created with full lyrics and as many of the actual tracks from each album that I can muster up! I recently had the privilege to see Atmosphere live at "Toad's Place" in New Haven Connecticut. Atmosphere was the headliner with "Abstract Rude," and "Blueprint" as the opening acts(not too shabby). I managed to actually mean Atmosphere's producer ANT and Abstract Rude and chat for a minute with them, and their demeanor was not what you would expect from famous musicians performing for a club packed to the gills. Abstract Rude came off as almost shy and very soft spoken, and ANT is one of the most friendly, down to earth guys that I have ever met that will be glad to stop and give an autograph, take a picture, and thank you over and over again for coming out to the show.

This album is pure gold, no PUN intended. Released on "Rhymesayers Entertainment," in 2008, this is the latest addition to Atmosphere's discography. This album is 15 tracks of slug and ANT's best work since "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having,"(their last major release). You can purchase "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold," by Atmosphere in standard or deluxe edition. The standard edition is just the 15 track album, and the deluxe edition comes packaged in a children's book written by slug, along with "Sad Clown Bad Dub 13," which is a compilation of live footage of Atmosphere performing, kind of an updated version of "Sad Clown Bad Dub 4."Those of us who were lucky enough to be one of the first people to pre-order the deluxe version of this album received a copy autographed by slug, as well as a hard copy of Atmosphere's free winter release "Strictly Leakage." Also available, exclusively to those purchasing "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold" from itunes is the bonus track entitled "Vanity Sick." Anyways, this album is amazing, but don't take my word for it...

Released in the spring of '08, "Sad Clown Bad Spring #12," by Atmosphere is the final installment of slug and ANT's seasonal series of "Sad Clown Bad Dub." This 5 track album was leaked on April fools day of 2008 and released for sale a couple of months later in hard copy. This album embodies the tones and feelings of spring, and is my personal favorite album of the "Sad Clown Bad Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring," series.The first track "Less One," and the third track, "Carry Me Home," are in my opinion the strongest tracks on the album, but they are all pretty good. I recently saw Atmosphere live, where he told the audience that the final track on this album, "Not Another Day," is his favorite song he has written to date. In the dead of winter 2007, while the days were getting shorter, and colder, and more depressing, slug and ANT delivered a treat to their fans. It came in the form of "Sad Clown Bad Winter #11." Originating from Minneapolis Minnesota; slug, ANT, and their group called "Atmosphere," know more perhaps about the depressing effects of winter better than any of us.This album being the third in the Sad Clown Bad Seasons collection had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately I have to name this the weakest of the 4 albums, "Sad Clown Bad Spring #12" being my favorite. Don't get me wrong, this is a great album, I only mean that if I were stuck on a deserted island and could only take 3 of the 4 albums I would have to leave "Sad Clown Bad Winter #11" at home :(.

"Sad Clown Bad Fall #10" (2007)
Released in 2007, "Sad Clown Bad Fall #10," by Atmosphere is one of four members of the Sad Clown Bad Seasons collection. Of the five tracks I four are very strong, "Party Over Here" being the weakest of the five in my opinion. I was able to dig up most of the tracks so you can stream them on this site as well as the lyrics. I have also added links to download the individual tracks in mp3 format.The beautiful thing that slug and ANT achieve on this series of albums is each album really captures the vibes of each season. This album is no exception, I find myself pulling it out again a year later to cruise to "Makes The Sun Come Out." If I had to choose a favorite track on "Sad Clown Bad Fall #10," I would have to give it a tie between "The Rooster," which was originally supposed to be on "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold," and "Lyndale Avenue User's Manual." To me these two tracks capture the emotions and feelings of the fall in New England (where I am from) the best.

"Sad Clown Bad Summer #9," by Atmosphere was released in the summer of 2007, as the first volume in the Sad Clown Bad Seasons collection. I consider this the second best of the collection, second only to "Sad Clown Bad Spring #12." "Sad Clown Bad Summer #9" was Atmosphere's first release following "Happy Clown Bad Dub Eight "The Fun EP"."This album captures the tones and feelings of summer in just 5 tracks. If you are at least semi-familiar with Atmosphere's work I am sure you have heard the first track "Sunshine," which, in my opinion is the best track on the album, followed by "RFTC." I have uploaded as many of the songs that I could find on Youtube.com and added links to download the Mp3's, as well as full lyrics for all tracks. ENJOY!

Released in 2006 following Atmosphere's "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having," "Happy Clown Bad Dub Eight "The Fun EP"," is a limited edition 7 track masterpiece. Unfortunately, this album is no longer available for purchase unless you can find someone selling it on ebay(which I cannot at this point in time).Luckily for you, I have put together this site where you can listen to the whole album and check out the lyrics(I'm working on the lyrics...). I am going to go as far as to say that "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having," by Atmosphere is my single favorite Atmosphere album. I have a special relationship to this album because it was the first Atmosphere album that I ever heard, and I was hooked. I took this CD, put it in my overhead CD case in my car, and it has been there ever since.This album consists of 13 of slug and ANT's best work both musically and lyrically. If you are a first time Atmosphere listener, or looking to expand your Atmosphere horizons "You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having," is a necessity to your collection. My favorite track on this album has to be "Little Man," the final track, which slug wrote to his son, himself, and his father. This song as well as "Carry Me Home," on "Sad Clown Bad Spring #12," is my favorite Atmosphere song.

"Sad Clown Bad Dub II" (1999)
This album, "Sad Clown Bad Dub II," by Atmosphere is easily in my top five favorite atmosphere albums. Unfortunately, Sad Clown Bad Dub II is a retired album, so you can no longer purchase it off the shelf (I will see if I can find it on ebay and put a link up). I have seen copies of this album sell on ebay for $50.00-$100.00 , it has become sort of a collectors item for die hard Atmosphere fans. If you aren't hardcore enough to drop that kind of money on an album, hopefully I can collect most of the tracks on here for you to stream.Anyways this is one of slug's older albums released in 1999, and just like every other Atmosphere album, every track is pure gold. I will attempt to put up as many audio files as I can find on Youtube.com so you can listen to the album as well as lyrics for all of the tracks, ENJOY!

- i met Atmosphere too, Slug was awesome, he gave me a hug and signed slug loves carol on a piece of paper for me :) i was 1st in line thats how i met him, they were bringing in their own equiptment. this was back in '01. and i was front row, later when they performed 'i hate ur boyfriend' with Murs Slug knealt in front of ME! and sang it... that was an unforgettable night :) btw they r my fave!!!
