Pimping Project: Paintjob

Ranked #3,470 in Cars, #180,360 overall

It's amazing the difference a bit of fresh colour makes

After the engine was taken out the rolling chassis was put on the back of a truck and transported to Mamics Smash Repairs for major bodywork and also the paintjob.

Gary Mamic got Johnny to strip down all exterior components then the interior. There were a bunch of repairs to do including the rust around rear windscreen and rust in firewall which was welded up and plated. Remove the dents (of which there were many). Then it was in the paint shop with Dean where it was prepped and rubbed back.

It was then masked up and 2 pac primed, dry rub primer with block then re- guide coat. A second rub down (wet rubbed) then remasked for paint.

Day three it entered the spray booth for a few coats.

Day four they put it all back together.

In the process it was discovered how badly rusted the top chrome bar of the signature Mighty Boy rack was. It wasn't as noticeable before when the car was looking so ordinary. But now with a lick of new paint it really stood out. Gary ordered one in which had to come from Japan.

Lets have a closer look shall we...

The interior is still gutted. Though it looks better now then it did with 22 year old carpet submerged under an inch or more of water.

Rust removal! The engine bay looks fantastic. It's a shame we need to put the engine back in.

Those wheels look terrible now. Not that they were the picture of health and beauty before. But they were less obvious when the car as a whole looked ordinary and run down. Now it's a distraction and an eye sore. That'll be fixed soon though.

Al reverses the engineless Flintstone-mobile off of the truck for Newcastle Auto Dismantlers to put the new engine in.

It's amazing the ugly bits you start to notice when compared to the new work. This bar is actually being replaced with an import from Japan courtesy of Gary from Mamics.

We took the Mighty Boy back to Mamics for a bit of a touch up and also to fit a couple of new parts. They also painted the air filter cover.

Johnny (on the left) did the panel work while Dean (on the right) did the paintjob.

What do you think so far? Be kind as I'd hate to hurt the little Mighty Boy's feelings.
