Paintless Dent Removal

Many people are becoming aware of the massive opportunity presented
with the new alternative to traditional body repair. Those who discover the process and
implement it first in their area profit theĀ
most, as they tend to seek out and find the large automotive customer base that needs this service.

PDR was first developed on the Mercedes Benz factory lines in the late 1940's and then tweaked and
introduced to the general market in the early 1980's. After a few entrepreneurs took hold of the process
word soon spread of the "magical process" and PDR Technicians began sprouting up across the globe.

Picking the Right PDR Tools

Paintless Dent Removal Tools

Paintless Dent Repair tools are made of different lengths, diameters, hand grips and tip styles. A typical set of tools can include anywhere from 12 to 70 varying rods and picks.

These rods are designed to perform many different repair jobs such as, hail damage repair, accessing a dent through a window opening, and reaching dents located in a rear quarter panels.

Dent Reading Equipment

One of the most important elements of PDR is the ability to read a dent. When you are massaging out a dent, you need to be able to clearly see the metal flex as you push on the dent. This is reading where your tool is pushing, in relation to the dent.

To clearly read a dent, a variety of paintless dent repair techniques and tools are utilized. More experienced technicians are able to read a dent by simply using the reflection of a metal object, nearby light fixture or even the clouds in the sky; a very difficult method for the inexperienced technician.

The preferred method is to use dent-reading equipment designed specifically for PDR. Several types of dent reading equipment are available. The equipment you use depends on a few variables: where the dent is located, where you work (shop or mobile), and your individual preference.

Accessories

Various accessories will complement your set of repair tools. Most tool packages should include, amongst other things, hot melt glue, a release agent, a glue gun and cross bar pullers.
