Chapel House Gallery and Learning Center

Artist and Craft tutor Pammy invites you to enjoy and follow her story. A genuine heartfelt journey of discovery and love for this micro community that fate lead me too my sanctuary. A run down chapel that stands proudly as it has done for centuries exposed to all the elements on a mountain ridge in romantic stunning scenery and idyllic rolling green hills are a perfect for this an artists haven in Mid Wales, UK.

Watch and read as my story develops and as i create large wall murals and paintings inspired by my love of my community, gardening and the beautiful mid wales scenery.

Pammy has been living in the small cottage that joins the chapel for many years now and loves nothing better than to spend her time painting in the spacious chapel known as her gallery.

Inspirational music plays in the background while Pammy in her World lovingly tutors and paints creating her masterpieces. She strongly believes she is kept safe and in good health thanks to the serenity and harmonious atmosphere provided to her by the chapel and it's guardians.

Pammy feels that she too has come home here to this chapel a mile or so from the black and white village of Berriew that lies between Welshpool and Newtown in Mid Wales, UK. Tiny cosy welsh farmhouse styled cottage rooms open on to what was once the chapel itself with its high ceiling and tall chapel windows through which the light streams. Light that makes this vast space an ideal artist's studio and gallery.

Inspirational Wall Murals

Grace the walls of the charming chapel

Wall muralI was fortunate enough to discover this run down chapel with my mother almost 10 years ago now. She fell in love with it instantly i being more practical was concerned about the isolation and remoteness of the once hilltop community chapel, now then very much in a state of disrepair in need of a new roof and complete redecoration. None of these things distracted my mother, who i might add was in the midst of escaping the restrictions of a drunken abusive second marriage and she saw this chapel as her gift from god. From then on destiny took control and everything fell right into place.

Every time i visit i get the grand tour, even before i take of my jacket, This time Pammy is busy pointing out that an ostrich egg (intro pic) she painted to depict the ascension of Christ. On the reverse a stairway shimmers with angels descending through the thin, eggshell blue ether.
I look from the egg to the chapel wall in front of me for it bears the same scene. When she came here 10 years ago Pammy wanted to paint something in sympathy with the building and so, Taking her theme from the egg, she painted a great mural across the entire wall.
Christ lingers in Gethsemane and the angels, those same angels that decorate the egg, are descending to meet him. "You see, he was going home was'nt he? she said.

Outreach Learning Center

Macaw feathersOne wall is devoted to Pamela's paintings and her latest work, 'Macaw's feathers,' is still on the easel. The body of the room is taken up with a long table upon which, easels and water pots are set awaiting the students who fill the chapel house in spring and autumn.
Pamela is an special needs teacher and also an outreach tutor for Coleg Powys and as such she teaches art to students of all ages and abilities for watercolor, acrylics and crafting.

Visitors to the Chapel

often reduced to tears at the beauty of the place

eggcrafting workshopsOther people find there way here of course, for Pammy's studio is also her gallery. She sells at the occasional craft fair and since joining Valley Arts and Crafts, her work will be for sale at their Lake Vyrnwy gallery and shop. Her eggs are brought by collectors worldwide but secretly, she grieves for those she has sold for each one has taken many hours of work. Pammy has decided to hold an egg-crafting workshops in the summer so she can share this absorbing pass-time with others.

All sorts of people find their way here, she says. It may be quiet and away from the bustle of every day life, for that is what attracts not only Pammy, but visitors who come to admire the chapel house and her amazing artwork.
