What makes palladium so unique?

Palladium is part of the platinum group of metals, so most of the advantages of platinum apply to palladium as well. Here are four properties of palladium that make it so unique:
  1. Rarity
    • Because Palladium is part of the Platinum Group of Metals, it is about 30 times more rare than Gold and typically mined together with Platinum.
  2. Purity
    • Commonly alloyed with two of its sister elements, Ruthenium and Iridium, Palladium is 95% pure (PD 950). Its natural strength is what allows it to maintain a much higher level of purity than that of White Gold, which in comparison has a purity of 75% (18K) or 58.5% (14K). White Gold is also commonly alloyed with such non-precious metals as Copper or Bronze.
  3. Always White
    • Palladium is a naturally white element, which means that it will never tarnish, discolor, or lose its color. This is very much unlink white-gold, which needs to be coated in rhodium to maintain its whiteness. Palladium has a permanent color with great depth and will stay a lustrous and bright white indefinitely!
  4. Wearable and Durable
    • Like Platinum, Palladium wears much better than Gold. Since it is a naturally strong metal Palladium does not require a surface plating of any sort, and has been long use to secure diamonds in prong-settings.

    i got a palladium wedding ring, about 7 grams 4mm across half dome plain. paid around 500 bucks for it. it was really slick shiny when i got it, but it scuffed up really quick, still looks good though, and i think all it would need is a polishing and it would look brand new.
