Take a Kid Fishing

One of the best things we can do for our kids is to get them out and away from digital distractions for some great times on the water. Its very easy in our busy lives to allow the electronics to "babysit" and we can all relate to this. Once they've been you'll need to go again and again. Try it.

Take a kid fishing

Whilst it's an old, and often used term, Take a Kid FIshing, is as relevant today, as it was then. They are the future, and as older fishermen we place the health of our fisheries in their hands. Developing the love of the sport from a young age is so important. Teaching responsible use of our waterways, protecting our fish stocks by applying the principles of 'Catch and Release' is vitally important for the health of our waterways, so that they can be used for generations ahead.

Kids love to fish, and although early on, it can be a bit trying (we've all been there) it is one of the most rewarding things we can do with our families. Seeing the excitement on the faces of the young as they have their first simple bite, or watching the enjoyment, as they scamper across the sand flats in search of likely holes when catching nippers. The absolute joy and excitement as, the poddy trap you made together proves its worth, and is filled with wriggling livebait.

Watching and learning from role models is what kids do best. They do it easily and naturally. A good role model can influence a child's thoughts and actions well into the future, so too a bad one! Consider the influence a carelessly dropped tackle wrapping can have, bundles of spent line left at the waters edge. Our children, watch, learn and do. What do we want our children to do with our fishery?
