Lesbian Vampirologist

You're probably asking yourself, "What's a lesbian vampirologist?" Well, the lesbian part is probably pretty self-explanatory. A vampirologist is someone who studies vampires. Think Peter Cushing as Van Helsing in all of those great old Hammer movies. That's me. I love vampires. I love vampire history, vampire mythology, and yes, even vampire sociology.

I'm also a writer. I write mostly about horror films, but have been known to write about all sorts of things. Mostly I write about women in horror, including lesbian vampires, women werewolves, and femme fatales.

My official bio

Goes something like this

Pam Keesey is well known for her writing on women in horror, including her books Daughters of Darkness, Dark Angels, Women Who Run with the Werewolves, and Vamps: An Illustrated History of the Femme Fatale. She is the editor and publisher of MonsterZine, an online horror movie magazine that, in the words of Dr. Frank C. Baxter of The Mole People (1956), explores the meaning and significance of horror movies in the 21st century. In addition to editing horror fiction and writing non-fiction about horror, Pam has also worked as a technical writer, a news editor, and as an editor of occult books in Spanish.

Books that feature me

I have essays in both Fear Without Frontiers and Horror Film Reader, and co-edited Sci-Fi Womanthology with my good friend Forrest J Ackerman. And if you don't know who Forry is, you should.

My top 5 horror films

Yes, I have more than 5

People often ask me what my favorite horror film is. The truth is, I have a lot of favorites, and each one I love for entirely different reasons.

My list is pretty long, and the order sometimes changes. But no matter how you slice it, these 5 films always make the list. I've included a description in case you're wondering why I like them so much.

My top 5 *not* horror films

Believe it or not, I like films that aren't horror films, too

Yeah, I have more than 5 favorite not-horror films, too. But these always make the list.

Why I'm here

To share my love of horror and horror films

Ingrid Pitt as Carmilla in The Vampire LoversAs you may have guessed, I love horror movies. I know a lot of you do, too. So I'm here to share my love of the genre, and hopefully to pick up a few new film suggestions along the way.

Know of a film I should see? Drop me a note. Love some of the same films I do? I'd love to hear why you love them, too.

After all, we both know that horror films aren't just for Halloween....
