Aren't I Cute?

Hi, my name is Carmen. You know you've seen me before. Mom has written several lenses about me and the rest of the animal family in this house. Mom wanted to make this page special so I can show everyone what I wish every animal could have.

I didn't come from a shelter, but I was rescued from a family that wasn't very nice to me. This lens is to show you how my life has changed since I was adopted by my new family, and how you can do the same for another animal like me.

How I Found My New Family

If you've read mom's lens about me, you know the basics of how I came to be a member of the family, but, I think the story could use some retelling.

I was being raised by a family that mom and dad think were trying to make me mean. In my old family, there were three kids. They threw things at me, and ran their toys into me. My old mom even let people hit me in the face. I was only a puppy, and they shouldn't have been doing that to me. Eventually, I became unmanageable. You would too if you were treated like that. My old family was going to give me to a shelter, but my new family jumped in to save me.

I was 12 weeks old when my new family adopted me. I have a little boy to play with, and he doesn't throw things at me, or run his toys in to me. People don't get to hit me in the face, and I get a walk almost every day. I also have two other animals to play with. I get toys, and food, and I can sleep where ever I want. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if my new family hadn't saved me. I'm a very happy Pit Bull now.

What I Like To Do

I'm more dad's dog than I am mom's. Dad takes me for walks every day unless it's really cold or it's raining. I wouldn't enjoy the walk much then anyways. Mom and Dad both buy me treats, and of course, they both give me lots of love and attention. I like to challenge Dixie sometimes for "Top Dog" spot, but she always puts me in my place. The cat, (I think that's what it's called), and me play together all the time.

I have a boy that likes to lay on me, but I don't mind, I know he loves me, and that's why he does it. He also gives me hugs and kisses all the time. My old family didn't do that. All in all, I have a wonderful life.

Carmen just loves her Nylabones. This is the one that we get for her. It takes her a little while to chew it up, so we don't have to buy them all that often.

Loyalty

Although, she was mostly my husband's dog, she would have protected me, my husband, and even my son, to the best of her ability. To her, we were all members of the pack, and she would have died for us.

Are Pit Bulls Dangerous?

Do you believe the media? Are all Pit Bull dogs dangerous? Let's debate this. Obviously, I don't think they are, or I wouldn't have two.

Is everyone right?

Yes, Pit Bulls are dangerous.

JeremiahStanghini says:

I don't really know, but I'm gonna side with my instincts on this one.

jacquelyndunn says:

I think all pit bulls are dangerous. My son had two while his children were small and he always said it was the way they were raised not their personality.( I consider us very lucky..no grandchildren bitten) However his wife had their 3 year old little girl and a neighbor child playing out in the yard and if she hadn't of just seen it they probably wouldn't have believed it but the dog just ran up behind the other child and clamped onto his leg.(child done nothing to provoke the attach) I also have rental property and my agency has told me if they see any pit bulls on my properties they will cancel my insurance.Somebody has to have established the attacks by these dogs.

skiesgreen says:

My dog, Boss, was attacked by a pit bull who tried to rip him to pieces. He was badly bitten in the genitals and did not urinate for 2 days. He was operated on and had a gauze lining put in his abdoman. A neighbor's friendwas taking his small dog for a walk on a lead when a pit bull raced over and killed him right there before his eyes. Yes, they also attack children and even their owners. Definitely very dangerous animal.

agusfanani says:

I never raise any pit bulls but people say they are more dangerous than doberman.

Triaminic says:

i believe they dangerous. because they attack to someone that didn't recognize

No. Any dog can be dangerous.

Jerrad28 says:

Nope, even when people try to make them fight and be aggressive over two-thirds of them won't fight and end up being used as "practice". It's terrible

distancelearningcourses says:

HI DKPrincess, thanks for writing such a nice lens on PET... keep writing good lens... visitors like me will always come and visit your lens.

mazbete says:

I think it depends on us to maintain, if we love and train it well, certainly he would be agood dog.

Spook says:

I guess it depends on the owner and how they are brought up and trained?

TylaMac says:

Any dog can be turned vicious through neglect or rough treatment. I have had Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes over the years and they have always been sweet loving pets. Pit Bulls are physically powerful but no more likely to attack than other types of dogs.

Instead Of A Purchase...

If you really don't want to make a purchase, here's another option for you. You can make a donation to this worthwhile animal charity instead. I'm sure it will be put to good use.

The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it's saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources wi

Thank You

Mom and I thank you for stopping by. I hope my story put a smile on your face. Not all animals are as lucky as I was, but, if you give me a chance, and raise me the right way, give me some direction and training, you'll have one of the best dogs you've ever had.

I Went Over The Rainbow Bridge

On March 21, 2011, I went over the Rainbow Bridge. Mom and Dad found out that I had cancer. I had five good years with my family and I was very happy. In my honor, adopt a pet that needs some love. Okay?

I hope you enjoyed this lens. Carmen liked making it, and I liked translating everything for her. Remember, any money made from this lens goes to the ASPCA, and even a little bit can go a long way to help out another animal like mine.

First, I'm so sorry for your loss of Carmen. What a short life she had! But, thank you so much for publishing your rescue story, and for saving her from becoming the dog she would likely have been with her first owners! Carmen is proof that pit bulls, like other breeds, respond to the treatment they receive. Thank you for making her life so positive. All animals should have such good homes and loving families!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time. May you find comfort in knowing that God takes each dog gently into His arms and places them on the lap of an Angel.
