Pampered Skin: The Best Accessory Even With Psoriasis

Having psoriasis has been a skincare adventure all by itself. The different soaps that I've tried and the lotions can make a very long list. I didn't get diagnosed with it until I was about nineteen or twenty years old. Up until then I thought I just had dry skin that would go away if I washed it enough. After awhile I noticed sometimes washing my skin would make it worse. Soon I began to notice that some soaps I could use but I had to put lotion on right afterwards, other soaps couldn't be used even with lotion.

The first cleansing product I used that didn't tighten my skin was baby wipes that I got from the dollar store. Aloe vera was on the ingredient list. I knew from using other aloe products it was a good skin softener. I was on a tight budget at the time, so the fact that it didn't get completely rid of the patches of dry skin didn't bother me. Then I used a product called Sistina with oatmeal in it. I've found that using different product either makes them more effective when used or just cuts down onthe boredom of using the same products over and over. here lately I've been using Dove Body Wash and Johnson's Softwash 24 Hour Moisturizing Wash. The Johnson's Wash is like using lotion with cleanser in it. Recently, I've found a product at Dollar Tree by Brecks with oatmeal in it. It softens the skin and it doesn't feel like my skin is being pulled across my face after I use it. I'll keep updating this page every time I find a new cleansing product that can be used by people with psoriasis.

My first skin moisturizer was petroleum jelly. My great-grandmother was insistent in using it. She also used it on black patent-leather shoes to prepare them for Sunday church service, hey she believed in getting her money's worth from any product. Of course I would look like a mirror coming down the street and you could tell who I was about a block away. Years later I tried using petroleum jelly but not only was my skin oily and shiny, after a while I started getting blackheads. So, I had to stop using it.

My next skin mointurizer and one I still use is Palmer's Cocoa Butter, I caugh the chicken pox when I was twelve years old. I've heard the older you are when you catch it, the worse it is. I am inclined to believe that statement because my sores were big and it seemed like it was taking the spots forever to go away. I started using Palmer's and was hooked. That was in 1986 and I'm still using it because it is so thick and creamy. I even use it on my nails righ before I put polish on them.

I finally started using another body lotion in 2003. Palmer's started their own line of shea butter products. That started a whole new skincare adventure. After that I used Little Egypt Almond Butter. the smell of it drive me crazy. I've also tried Bath & Bodyworks Tahitian Awapui Body Lotion. Again the smell is wonderful, especially righ after you take a hot shower. You will feel like you are on one of the Pacific Islands. Here, lately I've been using Ambi Cocoa & Shea Butter Lotion. It is very good as a hand lotion because it is not greasy, so you don't have to worry about grease spots everywhere.
