Oz Bezarius

Alice
Though Alice appears to be a somewhat selfish teenage girl, within her swells the power of B. Rabbit, a creature from the mysterious realm called the Abyss. She is bound to Oz Bezarius by a pact they made in order to escape from the Abyss, but which may eventually take Oz's life.

Xerxes Break
A peculiar man with an insatiable appetite for sweets, Xerxes Break serves the noble Rainsworth family. A member of Pandora, the organization which studies the mysteries of the Abyss, he considers it his personal mission to reveal its secrets and uncover the mystery of the Tragedy of Sabrie.

Sharon Rainsworth
Older than she looks, Sharon Rainsworth wields the power of Eques, the Black Unicorn. Though she is calm and collected at most times, she too wishes to learn the secrets of the past to help Xerxes, who she sees as more like a brother than a servant.

The first Original Soundtrack CD was released on Jul 08, 2009, and includes the opening and ending credits from the first thirteen episodes of the anime: Parallel Hearts by FictionJunction, and Maze by Savage Genius (featuring Tomoe Ohmi), respectively.

Yuki Kajiura has once again created an alternately haunting and playful score reminiscent of her excellent work in .hack//SIGN. The range of instruments used is classic of Kajiura's work. There are strings of every stripe, from the violin, to the harpsichord, to a gentle but chilling electric guitar. Steel drums, bells, chimes, a hint of reed and the talented use of a synthesizer complement the light and airy vocals.

On the eve of his fifteenth birthday, Oz Bezarius finds a mysterious pocketwatch hanging on an untended grave. As he winds it, he sees a strange vision of a girl in a tower. Shrugging it off, he prepares for his coming of age ceremony which will be held at the Silent Clock Tower, about which a prophecy states, "When the awaited one alights in the promised land, its bell will ring and break the silence."



Oz receives the congratulations of the Rainsworth family, and finishes his preparations for the ceremony. However, no sooner does he step beneath the clock than its hand moves, striking midnight. As the bell rings, the tower is plunged into darkness, and the Reapers, servants of the Abyss, come crashing through the windows. They open the doorway to the Abyss, and something comes out of it. It is monstrous black rabbit, wielding a scythe - one of the creatures known as Chains.



The next thing Oz knows, he is in the Abyss. Rather than the terrible prison he had imagined, the landscape is littered with broken toys and pieces of shattered dollhouse. There he once again meets the black rabbit, but in her human form - that of Alice, who looks just like the girl from his vision. She tells him that if he makes a pact with her, they will both be able to leave the Abyss. Unable to find any other way out, Oz agrees.



When Oz awakens, he at first imagines his servant Gilbert by his side, but instead he sees a man at least ten years older than Gil, who calls himself Raven. Also present is Sharon Rainsworth, who he met at the Silent Clock tower, and her loyal retainer, Xerxes Break. They belong to an organization called Pandora, and want to arrest Oz for making an illegal pact with a Chain. But Alice decides not to let him go willingly.

Zwei
One of the Baskervilles, Zwei is the first of the so-called "Reapers" to appear before Gilbert Nightray. Her Chain Doldum can entangle the heart and mind of a person with its steel threads and completely take control of them. Zwei wears the grin of a madman - all that can be seen of her behind her Reaper's cloak.

Echo
Conversely, Echo is a girl of very little emotion. Straightforward to a fault, she is a loyal servant of Vincent Nightray, and rarely questions his motives. Indeed, she rarely bothers to think for herself, though she is far from simple-minded. She is also very agile and skilled in combat.

Vincent Nightray
Vincent is the true younger brother of Gilbert, and was the first to be adopted by the Nightray family. Ten years ago, he was found in a similar condition as Gil, severely wounded, and also seemed to be suffering from some traumatic childhood events. Vincent's Chain is Yamane, the sleeping dormouse.

Oscar Bezarius
The uncle of Oz and Ada Bezarius, Oscar Bezarius loves having a good time. He takes it upon himself to deflate tensions and lighten the mood. He does his best to be a surrogate father to his niece and nephew as well as Gil. He also takes upon himself the majority of the duties of the Dukedom, in place of his brother Zai.

Reim Lunet
A high-ranking member of Pandora, Reim Lunet is a longtime friend of Xerxes and the Rainsworth family, though he officially serves Duke Barma. Though easily agitated, he is extremely knowledgeable and always comes through when it counts.
