Rate of Breathing
Panic Attacks Help: Your Breathing
I have found a lot of people saying that breathing never helps to calm down panic attack. Here is the problem...
They usually only monitor their breathing when they are having a panic attack.
You need to be conscious of your breathing at the first sign (no matter how little) that a panic attack is coming on. Just take deep breaths. Feel your lungs fully inflate with air before slowly exhaling.

Panic Attacks Help: Analyze Your Thoughts
Most people resist against the scary thoughts they are having. You should never do that. I found that the more I pushed against my bad thoughts the faster my panic attack came on.
Instead, go in and explore those thoughts. Ask yourself if those thoughts are very rational and really look at the moment you are in. Are your thoughts associated with anything that is likely to happen. The answer is going to be no most of the time!
This will get you into a different frame of mind where you begin to question all of those irrational thoughts rather than being afraid of them.
