Panic Attacks, Marijuana: Does Marijuana Cause Panic Attacks?
Panic Attacks, Marijuana: Marijuana Mellow?
Sometimes, Sometimes Not.
Marijuana. Purple haze, northern lights, maui wowy. These things are all supposed to take the edge off, right?
I mean when you're out on the weekend or after work don't few hits mellow you out? (For me it did...at least for a few years.)
How does pot fit in with panic attacks? On the surface it doesn't make much sense.
Well, we have to take a closer look at what marijuana can do to your body and your brain to really make sense of it.
Marijuana can make your heart race at upwards of 140 beats a minute and cause your thoughts to "get stuck" in your midbrain, the part of the brain that's responsible for irrational fears.
Once you start to go down that road it can get worse and worse and these attacks can spill over into your entire life.
See, marijuana for many people doesn't cause any problems. But, for others, like me and perhaps you, it gets our body and brains out of whack, causing panic attacks. Everybody is different.

Panic Attacks, Marijuana: Control Your Head
A Few Changes Is All It Takes
Or maybe you get an attack when you smoke as well, everybody is different in their experiences.
I used to be in the pot head's shoes. I smoked a lot of marijuana and I started having anxiety or panic attacks on a frequent basis.
I just couldn't figure out what they were or why I was having them. It was only when it got really bad that I started doing some research and working on my self.
Things got better. I stopped smoking so much, started exercising and in general started feeling much, much better.
Unfortunately I was still getting the attacks from time to time no matter what I did. So, I dug a little deeper.
That's when I found the one move technique. It's basicially a cognitve trick that trains your brain to switch from the irrational midbrain to the logical forebrain.
It's like magic. It truly works and it's saved me from having the sweating, nausea, feelings of unreality, trembling, fear of crowds, etc that were making my life down right not fun.
Don't wait like I did to do something about your panic attacks, marijuana should be moderated or eliminated if you are having regular panic attacks.
And when you put in the other pieces of the puzzle (diet, exercise, the one move technique)....well, it's like having complete control over your head.
Peace.

in reply to Maricle90 It's much healthier to quit smoking all together, if you need help seek it out. Once you quit you need to work on your nervous system, get exercise, do relaxation techniques, learn the one move technique from panic away, all these things will help get your brain and body back into a smoother rhythm.

I been smoking pot for 9 years now and panic disorder runs heavy in my blood. I grew up seeing my older brother have panic attacks 3-4 times a week and actually ending up in the emergency room the majority of the time until they got sick of seeing him and got him on medication. I wondered how he could really have it stuck in his head that something that bad was happening to him and just did not understand back then. After about 5 years of smoking pot, I started getting panic attacks when I smoked and could not believe it was happening. Worst feeling in the world, heart rate really high, breathing problems, and just straight hell. I had a hard time dealing with the idea that its really starting to affect me as well. I continued to smoke for another year or so and learned ways to deal with it. They got worse as time went by. I love smoking pot but I have had to cut back my use a lot. I went anywhere from 3.5g to 7g a day to roughly 2 grams a week of high quality weed.

Thank god! At least I'm not alone!! I had a lot to do with regular pot smokers over the years and sometimes they convinced me to smoke with them. Each and every time I smoked pot I just got agitated and even sometimes paranoid. Whilst everybody around me got obviously high, I just felt pissed off because nothing was happening to me. I had more joy sipping on my drink than they seemed to have smoking their joints.
I had to endure endless pointless conversations and "brilliant ideas" -- Once I had the privilege to listen to three stoners arguing about three different topics altogether!
I still don't know what "high" means and that's probably the reason why I haven't tried any other drugs. I should probably consider myself lucky.
