Panic Attacks Effects

Treatment Is Essential

Though panic attacks and anxiety attacks normally last no more than ten minutes, the after affects can linger for longer periods of time.

Even though the panic attacks physical effect themselves are harmless, the person may cause themselves or others harm by their own reaction to the panic attack.

Left untreated these symptoms may lead to a condition known as anxiety or panic disorder, which may further progress into agoraphobia - the fear of open places.

People who have these panic attacks symptoms repeatedly are said to have a panic disorder. This may lead to depression, and sufferers may revert to alcohol or drugs as an escape.

I've experienced more than one symptom on different occasions over a period of five years, though I didn't know I was having a panic attack at the time.

Once I realized and accepted the fact that I had just had a panic attack, dealing with it became much easier. The biggest obstacle I faced was admitting it to myself.

After researching panic attacks symptoms online, I found out that I'm not alone, and neither are you. In fact I believe everyone has experienced at least one sometime in their life.

Panic Attacks Symptoms I've Experienced

Dealing With My Own Panic Attacks

One winter morning while driving to work, I became scared to death about being in a head on collision. I was nervous, jumpy and would take my foot off of the accelerator as other cars approached on the two lane highway.

What a feeling of relief when I pulled into the parking lot.
I could barely get my hands off of the steering wheel I'd gripped it so tight. I was never happier to be at work. but physically I was beat, and felt like I hadn't slept in a week.

How was the ride home? Almost as bad as the ride to work. I'd driven this route to work every day for thirteen years in every type of weather imaginable I told myself, and began to calm down.

The feeling returned once or twice after that, but it was more of a bad memory than a panic attack. I can still feel the fear of that morning though.

I recently had a panic attack that occurred while inspecting the roof of a four story building. After inspecting the chimney flashings and roof vents, I was walking towards the roof edge to inspect the gutter system. From out of nowhere, for no apparent reason I suddenly became scared to death, and I was still a good ten feet from the edge. I'm talking frozen with fear!

My heart started pounding, there was a huge buzzing in my ears. I got so dizzy I just about tipped over.

I looked over to where the ladder was, and it seemed like a million miles away. I was so nervous, even the thought of crawling on hands and knees back to the ladder scared the hell out of me.

Then, I remembered what I had learned and dismissed the feeling. Poof! As fast as it came on is exactly how it left.

Only this time I had something to do with it. Ahhh, back in control. I finished the inspection without any other episodes.

It's very important to recognize the panic attacks symptoms for what they are so you are better equipped to deal with your emotions and regain control.

Great first lens and a 5 to you. My husband's ex-boss used to get panic attacks. It made things a little difficult at times.

Good information. I've also suffered from panic attacks and it seems quite common that they occurred while driving. I made a lens on panic attack treatments and you can find it here: Panic Attack Treatments
