PANSIES from My Garden

These exquisite flower cards have a living history.  The pretty little pansies started as seeds and grew into young plants.  Then they enjoyed a full fall to spring season of growth.  As the springtime days grew hotter, the little blooms began to wilt.  Instead of letting nature take its course, I harvested all the pretty little pansy blooms and gave them a new purpose.  They spent a month or so being preserved through pressing and drying.  Then carefully the fragile little flowers are given new life on the front of a greeting card to brighten someone's day.

Pansy: the Cool Weather Flower

The Flowers that Cheer Up the Winter

The leaves drop from the deciduous trees in fall, and all of my summer flowers prepare for the coming night when Jack Frost will put an end to their colorful blooms.

For the last five years I have set aside time for gardening during the autumn season to plant several flats of colorful pansies. Some are planted in beds, but I especially love to plant groupings of pansies in various pots, mixing the vibrant colors to my fancy. To me, the pansy has become my cheerful reminder of the warmer days and brilliant flowers of finished seasons. The bright, brave, colorful pansy stands through the cold winter in the place of all the long gone bloom of summer.

It's appearance is deceiving. It looks just as vulnerable as most summer flowers, possessing a rather flimsy stem and thin flat petals, but the Creator has blessed it with hardy constitution that is ready to weather colder temperatures than its summer cousins.

Pansies have long been one of my favorite flowers. I remember picking them as a child and taking them to my teachers. Thanks for the complements on my Homeschool quest. lens.

Nice lens! 5* quality. Thanks for commenting on my homeschool lens! Squidoo provides a lot of information and resources that homeschoolers (and even public school teachers) can use to keep the kids interested and involved with various topics from marine biology to tropical plants to strange animals to arts and crafts!

I love pansies! I haven't planted any for the last few winters, but you have inspired me so that I will watch as they become available here soon. Very nice lens, beautiful flowers and cards, 5 stars! (Thanks for your very kind comments on my lens, too!)
