Paper or Plastic or Reusable Bag?

HERE'S WHAT I THINK...

Paper, Plastic or Reusable Bags?

Every time you go to the grocery store - you get asked, "paper or plastic"?   Now you even have the option to use your own cloth grocery bags.  Here's my take...

You should always choose PLASTIC!!!!!

1.  Plastic bags allow you to carry more into your house from your car at one time!
2.  Plastic bags are useful for picking up dog poop when you take your pooch out for a long walk.
3.  Plastic bags can be used after changing a stinky diaper to help contain the smell until you get home!
4.  Plastic bags can be recycled.

Paper bags rip when you load them up and try to carry as much as possible into the house at one time.

And cloth bags???  Pluueezzz....what a pain in the rear these are!  First, you have to PAY for them.  Secondly, you need to remember to bring them to the store with you and hold them with you until you checkout.  Thirdly, if you don't have enough bags for all the groceries you buy - you have to purchase MORE!

What's your take???

Paper

Plastic

Or

Reusable Bags

It's a FACT!

It takes 91% less energy to recycle a pound of plastic than it takes to recycle a pound of paper

Yes, you're right!

Well, I must honestly admit that we do use the plastic ones for the multiple uses with all our cats.

No way, Monkeybrain!

No way, you have no idea what you're talking about, PAPER is the GREEN choice, and you can carry FAR more items in a paper bag than the little crappy plastic bags. Paper is completely recyclable, biodegradeable and reusable. And they are perfect trash bags for a days worth of garbage and don't hurt the environment when thrown away. the reusable ones for sale are horrible for the environment, imported garbage. You should ALWAYS choose PAPER bags, the original GREEN bag, and it's a farmed product, completely sustainable and renewable material.

You're joking, right? There is a cesspool of plastic swimming off the coast of California. It is TWICE the size of Texas. It's comprised of plastic bags, plastic bottles, and Styrofoam. So no, I think you can't be serious. You've got to be doing this to start a discussion. Check out my post: www.naturalaspossiblemom.com

Paper bags are not an option.

Plastic bags can be reused and if used resposibly they could be ok. But they never will be used responsibly and as well as being a drain on resources are a pervasive source of litter around the globe.

Reusable bags are better but they cause problems of their own.

It's probably best to continually reuse the plastic bags that you have until they disintegrate.

I would have to agree with NanLT, reusable fabric grocery bags FTW. :) My country had just been a victim of massive flooding due to the typhoons and what was the cuplrit? Plastic bags clogging the sewage systems! I guess plastic is alright but it's up to the consumer to be responsible with how they use/dispose of it.

NanLT says:

One of the grocery stores here in the UK now charges per plastic bag used, the others no longer have plastic bags readily available at the till. Stores on the continent don't even have bags at the till, it's expected that you will bring in your own bag. Paper bags aren't an option in any case.

I vote neither, because I now have a collection of fabric bags that I take shopping with me for packing my groceries into. Neat, reusable, and environmentally friendly.
