Easy to Make Paper Plate Crafts - Fun kids crafts activities
Here's some kids craft projects that your children can make very easily using paper plates. If you prefer it, these can also be used as masks. Just stick an iced lolly wooden stick (pop stick) on the end of the plate (using sticky or masking tape).
Using plastic plates are a good idea if you want them to be sturdy and are happy to stick on the pieces that you want. However you will be unable to use felt pen or crayon because it will generally rub off plastic plates.
Paper Plate Snake
This is a fun exercise for your kids to do and much safer than encountering the real thing! Here's a snake that you can make very easily using a paper plate.
What you will need
How to make it
- Paint the paper plate on both sides and leave it to dry.
- Cut two small circles from the white paper and put a black dot in the middle of each for the pupil.
- Cut a tongue shape using the pink paper.
- Starting from the edge of the plate cut around it in a circular shape towards the centre and when you are fairly close to the centre form the head of the snake.
- Stick the eyes and tongue on the head.
Paper Plate Clock
What you will need
How to make it
- Paint the paper plate and leave it to dry (or colour it with a felt tip pen).
- Cut two pieces of coloured cardboard for the hands, making one smaller than the other (for the hour and minute hands).
- Using a coloured felt pen which blends in well with the clock face colouring, write in the numbers. It may assist you when numbering the clock, to separate it into four quarters with a pencil which can then be removed with an eraser. However, you need to exercise caution to ensure that this does not remove any paint.
- Using the split pin, make a small hole in the centre of the plate (clock face). Be careful not to push it in too hard to avoid splitting the plate or bending the pin. Make a small hole through each of the hands and insert the pin through the hands and through the hole in the centre of the plate. Once the pin has been inserted, bend the prongs facing outwards so that it is fastened (you can also use a piece of masking tape on the back to secure it well). This enables the hands to move freely.
Paper Plate Frog
Here's a frog that you can make very easily using a paper plate. What you will need
How to make it
- Fold the paper plate in half and glue or staple the two halves together.
- Paint the paper plate green and leave to dry.
- Whilst the paint is drying prepare the feet. To do this cut two longer legs for the back of the body, as shown in the photograph from either the green paper or cardboard.
- Cut two shorter legs for the front of the body using the green paper or cardboard.
- Attach the legs with glue as shown in the photograph.
- Cut a small piece of pink paper for the tongue and insert it between the two plate halfs as shown in the photograph and fasten with glue.
- Stick the eyes in place as shown. If not using plastic eyes, cut two circles from a piece of white paper and use a black felt pen for the pupil as shown in the photograph.
You're done and you have your very own frog!

Paper Plate Bird
What you will need
How to make it
The bird consists of four main parts and can be assembled as follows:-
- Head - Prepare the head section, by cutting the coloured paper into a round shape. The eyes then need to be glued to the head and the beak cut out and glued in place. The feather is attached to the top of the head either using glue or a stapler.
- Body - Fold the plate in half and stick it together with glue (or staple it if preferred) and leave it to dry. If the plate has a side that is smoother, ensure that the plate is folded so that this side is facing outwards. Add decorations to your liking - see the photograph for one way that this can be done.
- Feet - Cut out two webbed feet from the coloured paper and stick them to the body (they can be either glued or stapled but we recommend that they are glued).
- Tail - To make the tail, cut a large piece of coloured paper to shape as shown in the photograph and attach it to the body as shown using glue or a staple.
