The Wonderful World of Paper Dolls!
If you are looking to try a low-cost, educational or fun new craft then paper doll-making could be the perfect answer for you. Generations of children and adults alike have enjoyed this simple yet imaginative recreation.
Whereas designer dolls retail at high prices, paper dolls are economical to purchase - and even cheaper to make for yourself! Some adults enjoy collecting these dolls for their own charm.
To make your own, all you need are a few basic crafts materials and a bit of imagination. Read on to learn how!
Home-school enthusiasts could link paper doll making to educational projects. Some ideas are listed below.
How To Make Paper Dolls
Easy, Economical & Fun!
* paper
* card
* child-safe glue
* child-safe scissors
* pencil
* coloured pencils, wax crayons, felt-tip pens or child-safe paints
Draw a doll onto paper. You can design and colour your doll however you like. The only limit is your own imagination!
If you make a long-haired doll, just remember to leave some space for tabs, otherwise clothing will slip off the doll's shoulders.
After drawing your paper doll, you will need to glue the doll and its oblong stand to a piece of card. Allow time for the glue to dry completely before carefully cutting it out.
Young children may need adult supervision when using scissors.
When cutting out your doll's paper clothing, be careful not to cut off the tabs. To dress your doll, cut out the clothes then carefully fold the tabs over the doll to hold the clothes in place.
To make your doll stand up, fold the oblong stand in half to make a 'V' shape, then slide the slots in the stand into the matching slots by your doll's base.
