Paperclips

What can one really say about paperclips?

We always seem to have them at our desk, in every supply order, scattered around our house, and even in purses and our cars.

Until we actually need them that is... then they seem to disappear.  Paperclip gnomes? Quite possibly.

History of the Paperclip

Yes, I'm dead serious...

The very first patent for the paperclip was awarded to American Samuel B. Fay in 1867. Ten years later Erlman J. Wright patented the first crap piece of metal explicitly designed as a paper clip, resembling present "models". It only took ten years to work out all the kinks apparently.

To the utter horror of historians EVERYWHERE, the Norwegian Johan Vaaler has continued to be incorrectly identified as the inventor of the paperclip. Oh the shame...

Metal Paperclips

You know... the ones made of metal...

The cheapest paperclips around are made of smooth metal and make your hands smell like dirty nickels.

The usually come in small and large, though the amount of paper they can clip doesn't seem to be of a hugely discernable amount.

If you upgrade slightly, you can get the "grip" paper clips that leave fabulous crimps in all your paperwork.

Plastic Paperclips

Yeah... the ones with plastic on them...

If you really want to splurge with the office budget, why not upgrade to plastic coated paperclips? They crimp and mangle your paper just as well, with the added bonus of having zero real grip!

In fact if you want to paperclip a ton of stuff and then stack it all up, there is almost a 100% chance that the paperclips will mate and spontaneously reattach themselves to OTHER peices of paper in the stack.

Money well spent...
