Paperclips: Not Just Your Standard Office Equipment

Where ever there are papers there are paperclips. These tiny little highly valuable pieces of twisted metal sit patiently waiting to be used.

Paperclips are an essential part of virtually all offices. They are found in homes, schools, businesses, libraries, and shopping centers. The paperclip is so small that you rarely notice it, unless one isn't there when you require it, yet the paperclip is an item worthy of much more credit than it currently receives.

Paperclips are a much under appreciated item, but when one really takes a good close look at them, it is absolutely amazing what this one teeny little piece of office equipment can accomplish.

The many uses for paperclips...

Besides being standard office equipment paperclips do have a variety of other uses. Okay let's say that you get super duper, beyond a shadow of a doubt, bored out of your mind one day...Grab your little bucket of paperclips and allow the power of the paperclip to amuse your day in a variety of most useful ways.

You can make yourself a lovely paperclip necklace, bracelet, tie clip, or set of cuff links. (That aught to have a few people in the office sitting up and taking a little closer notice of you.)

Straighten your paperclip into a wire line, stab it into your eraser, and you now have a handy memo holder which you can store all your receipts on. Straightened paperclips could also be used as a shish-ka-bob, stir stick, toothpick, or as a set of pick up sticks (That should cure your boredom).

Popped a hem, or lost a button, well you know exactly what you can use to fix your appearance back up to office standards. Grab that wonderful little item that we know as a paperclip and let it put your clothing back together again. Is your hair a mess? Use a paperclip as an attractive hair barrette. Put a little cotton on the end of your paperclip and you have a swab to clean out your ears or belly button area.

Paperclips also make a wonderful little fish hook although I am not quite sure what kind of office you would be working in if you really needed one of those?

Paperclips can also be used as a lock pick, guitar pick, or just something to clean under your nails with. Decorate up your desk by building yourself a paperclip ring holder, picture hanger, or fine art piece.

Need an instrument of torture? Not a problem. If it is deemed absolutely essential under current office conditions then keep a straightened out paperclip close at hand.

Purchase gold paperclips to hand out as the all important office "Golden Paperclip Award". Yeah everyone will appreciate that gesture. And if the boss is getting on your nerves, and you feel the need to unwind a little, simply untangled one end of your paperclip to make a fantastic roach clip.

Wondering who invented the paperclip?

It seems that some controversy surrounds the mystery of who exactly was the first person to invent the paperclip.

Paperclip history is indeed a little confused on who it was that invented the paperclip. In 1899 Johan Vaaler (a Norwegion) had his version of the paperclip patented in Germany (Norway did not have patent laws at that time) which allowed Norway to lay claim to the invention of the paperclip.

In the United States Samual B. Fay patented his twisted wire paperclip in 1867 followed shortly after by Erlman J. Wright's wire gizmo patent in the year 1877.

Now add to this confusion the fact that someone found an advertisement for 'Gem' paperclips for sale in Britain dated 1894. Gem paperclips had not been patented, but the machine that made these little clip wonders is, leading many to believe that Gem may have been the first paperclip. The tiny piece of twisted wire known as the Gem paperclip is still the most widely recognized paperclip in the world.

The tale of the little red paperclip...

There really was a fellow who successfully traded a little red paperclip for a house, but don't get too excited, it wasn't all as easy as it sounds. There were a number of transactions involved before the deal reached the acquisition of a house.

A Canadian by the name of Kyle MacDonald decided to attempt to see how far upwards he could trade when beginning with a simple item such as a little red paperclip. He traded the paperclip for a pen, the pen for a doorknob, and worked his way upwards from there. After fourteen successful transactions he reached the amazing deal of acquiring himself a house from that little tiny red piece of wire that he began with, the paperclip sure is an amazing item, isn't it?

A paperclip for a house? <---Read the details. That has definitely got to be the greatest paperclip trade in history. Way to go Kyle...

What the heck are keywords?

There are many factors which the search engines use to determine which articles will rank high on their search engine listings and keyword optimization is one of these. The search engines look for web pages which contain good keyword SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and rank these pages higher in their listing, which makes the higher ranking webpages much easier for people to find.

But SEO is much more than just writing an article filled with a bunch of meaningless keywords. The search engines are just machines but they are certainly not stupid ones.....What the heck are keywords?

Using your back yard as an inspiration for writing

A writer's thoughts are a little different from those of other individuals. Writers are just always naturally looking for those tiny little pieces of life and living that will become the basis for their next article or story line. Little mental notes made, and tucked away, to be used at a later date.

No opportunity is left unnoticed; even the simple task of yard chores on a sunny summer day, to a writer, means using your back yard as an inspiration for writing. It is amazing what is out there if you really stop to see what goes on in the yard around you....Using your back yard as an inspiration for writing.

Search engine evolution: Where they started and where they are today

Search engine ingenuity actually began long before the World Wide Web even came into existence. The concept of creating a data base of information came glaringly to light with the publishing of an article back in 1945 entitled "We May Think" written by Vannaver Bush. In this article he encouraged scientists to work together to develop a knowledge based system of information for the entire world to share....Search engine evolution.
