Paperclips: Not Just Your Standard Office Equipment
Take a look at your desk, it usually has on it a computer, paper, pens, and for some strange unknown reason paperclips. They are always there, either just having been unclipped from something, or silently waiting to clip together any number of vital papers that need to be united in order to make some degree of sense in an otherwise senseless world. Staples are too permanent so the job falls down to that common little item knows as the paperclip.
They haunt desks everywhere and why? How important can one little tiny piece of metal be?
A Little Paperclip History:
Way back in the days of yore, long before paperclips came into existence, string, pins, ribbon, leather strips or wire were used to attach items together.Prices needed to be attached to fabrics and valuable documents needed to be attached to one another. In the late 1800's a little invention is in the works that is about to take the business world by storm. That most useful of all office supplies "The Paperclip" is about to be invented.
By whom? Well history seems to be a little confused on that issue. It seems that the true history of paperclips is a little bit fuzzy....
History books lay the prestigious claim of this amazing discovery to a number of people but who it was that invented the paperclip is still being debated.
In 1899 a Norwegion fellow by the name of Johan Vaaler had his little gadget patented in Germany (Norway did not have patent laws at that time) and Norway lays claim to the invention of the paperclip.
But mean while back in the United States Samual B. Fay has already laid claim to his tiny metal gizmo by having it patented in 1867 followed closely by Erlman J. Wright's patent in the year 1877.
While amongst all this patent curfufful comes along a little document advertising 'Gem' paperclips for sale in Britain way back in 1894. It turns out that the Gem paperclip isn't patented, but it is instead the machine that makes it that is, yet this tiny piece of twisted wire is to become the most widely recognized paperclip in the world.
Amazing Amusing Paperclips!
Paperclips And Their hundred And One Uses:
We all know that paperclips clip pieces of paper together and are thus indispensable in the office area. But did you know that they also work amazingly well in numerous other little emergency areas of the office as well? For example: Bend one into a straight line, stab it into your eraser and you can store all your receipts on it. Or maybe you are sitting in your office and you suddenly lose a button, no sweat, use a paperclip to hold you together. So you forgot to accessorize that day, don't worry just chain some together to make a stylish bracelet, cufflinks or necklace. Popped a hem, well hemming is not a problem with a few tiny little paperclips at hand. Need a tieclip? Who you gonna call? Paperclip! Paperclip! They also make a handy dandy little fish hook, although I am not quite sure what kind of office you would be working out of to require one of those?
Toothpick, shishkabob, stir stick or just to play with as "pick up sticks". Had a really really rough day, and just need to relax, a paperclip with one end untangled makes a fantastic roach clip. Put a little cotton on the end of one and you have a swab for your ears or belly button. Ewwwwwww!
Guitar pick, lock pick, hair barrette or just something to clean under your nails with. Ring holder, picture hanger or instrument of torture if it is deemed absolutely necessary under current office conditions. Ah and of course, for the ultimate office reward you would have the coveted, "Golden Paperclip Award" to hand out.
Yep, that quiet little item we refer to as a paperclip, sure comes in handy when it needs to!

- SPONTANEOUS REMISSION?
- The latest theory that I have heard as to the reason why I am ill? That theory is that I am sick because I am a survivor of spontaneous remission from cancer! Now that was an article that caught my attention. They know that my illness has a high incidence of cancer connected to it (approximately 30% to 40% of us have cancer at the time that we are diagnosed) If a cancer is discovered and treated effectively, then not only does the cancer disappear, but often times so does the entire illness also disappear..........

Humor: Jealousy
I try to keep my monsters locked in the closet, and out of trouble, but every now and then one or more of them manages to sneak out. Some nights listening to them gnaw at the door, I just give up and, open the door to let them all come out to play. The next day they always seem a little more appeased as I tuck them one by one back into the closet where they spend the next week or two sleeping off their drunken debauchery. But tonight....Read Full Article. Are You Missing Mom?

Humor: The Problems Associated With Growing Old
The problems associated with growing old are very similar to the problems associated with growing up. Each new day you spend a lot of time, and energy trying to remember everything that is expected from you, or that you are supposed to accomplish that day. You spend a lot of energy concentrating on being able to stand or walk without falling, and you cross your fingers that you will make it through a day without wetting your pants, so that maybe tomorrow you won't need to wear that dreaded diaper .....Read Full Article. Humor: How It All Went Terribly Wrong
Squirrels squirrel away food. They pack it away, hide it, store it, bury it and then dig it out again on a rainy day. If you are a dog than this squirrel madness is just great. Our dog spends a great deal of her day sniffing out the little patches of 3 or 4 dog food kernels that are strategically buried throughout our property. She loves having her food source turned into a game of hide and seek. But then there is me and my idea of what I want buried and where ....Read Full Article. - I just had to stop by and see what could be written about a paperclip. Well done! That's a really good idea about making a receipt holder. I keep all mine till they're entered in my budget program, and that's a great idea for keeping them together.
