Pets and their senses
Yet, to say that Animals have the ability to see and hear the Paranormal is absurd to some. Not to me. I've seen it in action. I believe pets, (and babies for that matter) are very attuned to the Paranormal. Probably more-so in their own house, as that is "their" territory, and they are by nature, protective.
No one can deny that animals have exceptional capabilities. The number of animals who have found their way home from hundreds of miles away, and after many years...coincidence? I think not.
I wanted to take a closer look at pets, and how they can detect Paranormal Activity. I already knew from personal experience that it is possible. I decided to delve deeper.
Paranormal Pet Senses
Electromagnetic fields?
Dogs and Cats are more highly sensitized to electromagnetic activity than most humans. This tends to make them natural psychics. Any anomalous activity would normally be picked up by an animal.Just as mentioned above, my Dog acts weird when there is a storm approaching. Most animals do. I have watched my dog walk up to the door, tail wagging, to greet...absolutely no one I could see. My Papi (Yes, his name is Papi) will sit and turn his head, as his eyes follow something move across the room. I don't see it, but he does.
My Daughter, who swears that she has seen shadows move quickly into the kitchen on many occasions, seems to share the anxiety of my Dog, who will not even eat in the kitchen if he is by himself. He just does NOT like it in there.
Although I have always felt a comforting, almost protective force in this house, I have encountered the Paranormal. Fortunately, although my Dog and Daughter fear the Kitchen, we have had no harmful, and only minor frightening experiences. Most are comforting and protective, and quite friendly.

Theories on Pets and the Paranormal
There seem to be conflicting theories on how, exactly, dogs and cats react to Paranormal Activity. I've read many Articles, and forum posts that say if an animal isn't growling or spitting, then there is no Paranormal activity. I could not disagree more. I believe whatever "type" of entity it is, will determine what reaction it gets from the animal. In July of 2007, The New England Journal of Medicine had an article about a cat, named Oscar, who was adopted by the staff of a nursing home. Oscar, it seems can predict death. As of the date of the Article, Oscar had 25 correct predictions. Oscar would take up post at a patients bed, purring and laying beside them, and would stay there until shortly after death. The Staff began to rely on Oscar's prediction as to when to tell the families that their loved one's time was near. The Medical Journal attributes the ability to Animal senses. They say that perhaps the patients organs shutting down emit a scent that Oscar is very attune to. Of course, maybe, Oscar just knows something we don't!
Animal's senses are so much more keen than a humans senses. I have witnessed it myself, in my Dog and in my Cat. They often seem to sense things that I do not. I know there are times when it is because their hearing is so much better, and it's simply a matter of they hear something make a noise that has nothing to do with the Paranormal.
There are also the times, when there are no other explanations, just as there are with people. If you believe in the Paranormal, you will have to agree that our Pets are much more attuned to Paranormal activity.
A Sixth Sense, or hypersensitive
People disagree on whether animals have these amazing abilities because they have a sixth sense, or there senses are just so much more attuned. What do you think?

- It's not really a case of us having "exceptional capabilities", it's merely that people have unexceptional capabilities if, indeed, any at all to speak of. High Paw to you!

- My feline companion, Vladimir, isn't reading this as I don't want him getting any ideas as to how to spook me further than he does right now. I know he sees things that I don't see and, even though I realise this is because he has much more highly developed senses than I have, it still gives me the creeps when.he watches something (someone?) coming down my 19th century hallway, through the (new) glass wall and along into the (old) kitchen. Maybe he's watching an air current? Perhaps a floating dust mote - I have plenty of those. 5 midnight bells to you

- This is great! Our beloved CaddyJack, a golden retriever, died some years ago. On that day, my husband saw Baby, one of Caddy's dog friends, on the golf course. Whitey told Baby that Caddy had died, and Baby seemed to understand. Some time later, she scratched at the door. I let her come in as usual. She wandered through the house, room by room, and then came into the den and sat down with my daughter and me. She sat like that for about 15 minutes, and then got up and scratched at the door to leave. She had made her condolence call. To this day, I can sense Baby sharing her grief with us. It was a deeply moving moment!
