Tips for online parenting

Each second, somewhere on the Earth, there is a baby born meeting this world. These little creatures encounter difficulties in the world with their first breath. Since their first crying, steps and words, parents covered and flood them with love and protection. Is the human basic instinct to protect his own, especially when it comes about children.

Parent's conerns

As I was saying, the parent's concerns for children appear instantly and will never end. First step, first word, first school year, everything is like a fresh remember. Starting at early ages children present unique security risks in different cases.

For example starting from the moment when they interact with a computer for the first time and then when they connect to the Internet, you must not only keep them safe, but you have to protect the data on your computer. By taking some simple steps, you can dramatically reduce the threats your child encounter while surfing.

Protecting child online

Having this security issues in mind a parent needs tips to create a safe Internet world where his child can play, learn and keep in touch with his friends in complete security. This concern is a result of the online thievery that increases every year and because of the online predators. These online predators get in touch with children in chat rooms, gaining their confidence and later getting private information about the place they live, their name and much more getting your family at risk. That's why knowing some tips for making a more secure internet world is vital. I will point here the most important ones to help you in creating this safe world for your children.

1. Keep your children's computer in a populated corner of your house and be aware of other computers your child may be using.

2. If the computer is in your child's room is better to implement parental control software for blocking or restricting access to specific web sites and application that might display inappropriate content.

3. Talk with your child and establish rules that will be respected and set hours your child can surf the Internet.

4. Make sure you know your child's online friends and do not allow him to talk with strangers.

5. Create separate account for your child so he can't access, modify or delete your files.

6. The most important thing is to use the Internet together with your child and advice him never give private information to strangers, find together educative sites, creative and search for online games specific to his age.

Even if your child has grown up and is technically skilled in computers please keep in mind that he is still vulnerable and susceptible to influence. Children still need advice, guidance, and protection.

How to block chat applications using Aplication Blocker

Application Blocker includes a block msn tool which can restrict access to chat rooms and instant messaging software. The default list with chat applications contains the latest versions and a great opportunity is that if a new version is released you can add it to the list. This has to be done only once because Application Blocker, the block msn tool, will keep the settings.

You can also create a scheduler in order to define specific hours during you enable chat. If you want to receive alerts when your child is trying to access a blocked application, you have to enter your e-mail address and set the e-mail sending frequency.

I have used software to block my son's access to certain websites and games (something similar with this Application Blocker mentioned in here) and finally my son understands that they are not appropriate for him. Even if I considered this kind of software unfair, at the beginning, now I am very proud of my decision.
