How To Make Children Understand The Power Of Thoughts

Ranked #6,490 in Parenting & Kids, #219,714 overall

Thoughts Come True: Did you know that you bring about what you think about?

For centuries, the sages and saints have mentioned and recognized the unlimited power of thoughts. Our thoughts, be it positive or negative, determine who we are and what we become. That is why helping our children understand the power of thoughts from an early age is essential.

As parents, you have to ensure that the children are guided towards thinking positive right from the early age. Children learn faster and better while growing up. Once they enter adolescence or the teens, it will become tough for you to alter their way of thinking. So encourage kids to think they are capable of doing what they want to do right from the time when they are between 3-10 year old, the most impressionable period.

Always encourage your child to think positive

Parenting advice for developing positive attitude in kids

Parenting advice: Encourage your child to view the glass a half full"Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
- Winnie the Pooh.

Children with negative thoughts tend to give up easily, and lack that spirit and fire in them. On the other hand, children who think positive are more enthusiastic, energetic and possess that potential to take on life. So here are a few tips that will help you make children understand the unimaginable power of thoughts:

"Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will."
- Dr. Robert Anthony

Try to encourage your child in all situations. For instance, your child is upset because he/she has not got A-grades in all subjects. So what do you think you should do in this situation? If you start criticizing your child for not getting A grades in everything, it will make your child feel bitter about the results, even if he/she may have received As in some of the subjects. Instead of complaining about the subjects on which your child missed out on the A, appreciate the results in which he/she scored high. Ask your child why the As did not happen in the others, what could be the reason according to the young student. You will be amazed to find that your child with clear honesty that perhaps he/she did not work hard enough on these subjects.
On the other hand, if you keep complaining about what didn't happen, instead of also appreciating the good things that did, you may find your child hunting for excuses for the mediocre results rather than taking responsibility for them on his/her own self.

When raising children, follow these mantras of good parenting

Parenting advice: Tips for developing healthy child behavior

Encourage your children to do whatever work they are doing with enthusiasmDo not keep comparing your child with other children

Comparing your child to other children will only make your child feel inferior and will affect your child parent relationship badly. The best way to deal with this kind of situation is to tell your child that, "It is ok to lose in some. You cannot win all the time. But I appreciate that you have worked so hard. And I am proud of the As you scored." Try to make your child see the glass half full rather than half empty. Make your child understand that every failure is an opportunity to work harder and learn from past mistakes.

Make kids see positive in all situations

Raising children who think positive and are confident of their own abilities is easier said than done. When parenting your child, make your child see the positive even in bad situations. For instance, your child's favorite toy was broken by his/her friend when they were playing. Instead of scolding your child or telling him/her not to play with that friend again; you should show him/her the positive aspects of the situation.

Tell your child that, "even if the toy was broken, at least you had great fun, you enjoyed with your friends. And that is what matters. At least you have fond memories to cherish. Next time, remember to handle your toys with more care. You can then enjoy them for longer."

The idea is to help develop the habit of thinking positive in your child. On the other hand if you tell your child not to share toys with friends again, guess what will happen. This will only make your child selfish and self-centered and this is certainly not what you would want your child to grow up to be. So tell your child to be a more careful with toys in future but cherish the fond memories he/she has of playing with buddies.

Do your work with enthusiasm

Encourage your children to do whatever work they are doing with enthusiasm. If your children witness you doing your work be it cooking, reading, cleaning with enthusiasm; they will also follow the same. So practice what you preach.

Use positive children quotes and affirmative words

Encourage children to speak the language of hope and affirmation. Instead of using "I can't', I won't", inspire your kids to say "I can", "I will" and so on. Remember what you speak and what you think is what turns into reality. So instead of having negative thoughts, turn your thinking in a happier direction, just like you change channels on your TV.
