Parenting Discipline With Positive Reinforcement

Isn't that the dream for all of us, as parents? We want our children to clean up after themselves and to do it without a temper tantrum or any other production? I used to spend all day cleaning up after my kids. I was just done with it! It was not how I wanted to spend my day and I found it made being home not very much fun. Anyone else feel the same way?

Well, in an effort to learn how to enjoy my kids, I started working on a number of strategies. Some of the strategies included things like, 1 2 3 Magic, New Kid By Friday, Parenting By The Book, How To Really Love Your Child - and so many other books/resource. There are aspects to all of them that I liked and others that I didn't.

Ultimately none of them solved my problems. By the way - my kids clean up extremely well now (not perfect - please, they are children!). I guide them, teach them, encourage them, and provide what they need. I feel good about my parenting and my relationship with my children.

Shopping With Children Driving You Nuts?
This doesn't even include the pains we go through when we need to run to the grocery store with the kids. I know how exhausting it is to take kids to the store. They want everything. When they don't get it, they start whining and screaming. UGH! When will it stop.

I am not sure which is worse, but I have experienced all three with my 4 boys (well, the youngest isn't doing it yet, but he is only 9 months old)!

The Terror Of Tantrums
I have experienced temper tantrums so bad that my thumb is now a candidate for surgery because of how hard my child kicked me when out of control. With that type of intensity - something had to change or else we would have been in for it as he got bigger and stronger (he was only 4 when he kicked my thumb).

Biting Is So Embarrassing
I don't know how else to put it, but embarrassing is just the beginning. He kept biting the same child every day - and she was the daughter of my co-worker. It was horrible! Not only that, but he was kicked out of daycare because of it - making me leave my job for a while. I was out of control and so was he!
