It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.

~Joyce Maynard

When you're a stay-at-home mom or dad who's also working at home, sometimes it's difficult to cope with all of life's demands - your marriage, your job, your kids. Here you'll find some humor and resources for how to cope - how to find peace in the midst of chaos, carve out time for yourself, make the most of the time with your mate, handle life's major stressors like finances and health problems (this will be coming soon - check back later), have some fun, and grow meaningful friendships. All of this will help you grow into the work-at-home-parent you want to be, the parent you imagined you would be! After checking out these resources, check out my 5 Reasons List to see what started it all . . .

Before I got married I had six theories about bringing up children; now I have six children, and no theories. ~John Wilmot

Why I Love Being Home with My Kids

If I worked in an office somewhere, I would have missed this special moment. And, I would have missed out on the opportunity to teach them all about snow that day. We read books and sang songs about snow. We matched snowflake cut-outs and counted them. We watched snow melt and tasted it! There was too much snow for them to play in, so instead of making a snowman outside, we made one with homemade dough. We also made snowy pictures with homemade salty paint. I wouldn't trade that day for anything.

My favorite parenting books

I've read both How to Really Love . . . and The Five Love Languages . . .. They're invaluable, and I recently decided that it's time for a re-read. I'm currently reading Raising Your Spirited Child. After the first chapter, my attitude has changed. It's still a struggle, but now there's so much more hope.

Moms Support Groups

Finding a group of moms (or dads) who support one another is a great way to develop meaningful friendships and to stay sane in this crazy world of parenting. I'm currently a member of a Moms Club, and having those women to share my experiences with and gain knowledge from has been a wonderful blessing. I'll be looking for a WAHM group! Check out these groups and find a local chapter to join. It'll make a huge difference.
