Midnight in Paris 
Soon-to-be-married Gil (Owen Wilson) dreams of being a great novelist, like the ones drawn to the Paris scene in the 1920's. While in Paris with his fiancee, troubles surface in the relationship. He finds solace wandering the streets of Paris, and at the stroke midnight, he's transported to the old Paris he's been dreaming of, where he meets Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso, and all of his art and literary idols.
Midnight in Paris is the Woody Allen movie for people who don't like Woody Allen movies. Owen Wilson plays the goofy protagonist role historically played by Woody Allen himself. The dialogue isn't as fast, but the rambling is intact. Wilson is charmingly self-effacing, Woody Allen-style.
It's a wonderful fantasy movie for anyone interested in Paris' Golden Age, although modern Paris is well represented, too. Midnight in Paris is much more of a comedy than it was billed as, but it also has an underlying message about over-romanticizing bygone eras.
Starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Adrien Brody, and Kathy Bates in a delightful turn a Gertrude Stein. Plus a cute cameo by Carla Bruni.

Her adventures take her to the Hotel Crillon and Place de la Concorde, the Place du Trocadero (with interior shots of the Sorbonne's Grande Amphitheatre), a moonlight cruise on the Seine, Square du Vert-Galant, La Conciergerie, Paris boutiques, and more.
I had to suspend belief to accept all the French people in the film speaking to EACH OTHER in English, but this is an escapist movie catering to Americans, after all.
It was made in 1984, but the only thing that seemed dated was the synthesizer music in the cabaret scene. Otherwise, this film is as timeless as Paris. Lovers of Paris movies should own this film. It has LOTS of Paris scenery shot on location, and it's a cute little madcap comedy to boot. Want to rent it instead? Netflix has it.

We can't talk about French cinema without highlighting the work of Gerard Depardieu. Camille Claudel, the story of Rodin's lover and muse, won a Best Actress Oscar for Isabelle Adjani (who is quite an accomplished French film star in her own right), and also won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 1989.
Side note: There's a dedicated room of Claudel's work at the Rodin museum in Paris, if this movie inspires you to visit.
