Parker the rabbit reviews the Beaver
Ranked #4,592 in Entertainment, #57,327 overall
It should occur to you that you are reading the words of a rodent stuffed animal who is reviewing the performance of another stuffed rodent animal.
(You can scroll through this without the fear of something risque coming up about the beaver).
As for the plot, this is a dark comedy about a human suffering from depression. Walter wears a beaver puppet on his sleeve as a therapeutic device which helps him get back into the world. I won't give away the ending here. The reviews on the movie after its release were 'mixed'.
Depression is important. The forecast (by one of those groups with the three initials) is that it will be the second most prevalent disability on the planet. It is important that the public develop an awareness of the disorder and the dynamics experienced by the family and associates who live around the depressed person. I think that this movie helps provide the insight, especially on how badly relatives want the depressed person to 'come back'.
My big ear for music enjoyed the background score by Marcelo Zarvos.
You'll find out on this LENS what I already knew about the Beaver before I saw the film of the same title. My rabbit cousins live up in Cascadia where Oregon is 'The Beaver State'. I am jealous of all the wood up there that they can chew upon. I myself have to rely on sticks that humans bring back from Home Depot as my owner knows I will go for the baseboards if I don't have material for my precious teeth. A beaver is known as the engineer animal because of his dam making activities.
The movie stars Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster and I'll remind you of some of their other outstanding work later on.

I have had experience with employees in my company, Parker Industries Limited, who have had emotional disorders. All my colleagues are animals. The dogs are given the pet med, Reconcile, when they act up during thunderstorms.
The beaver in this film is more perservering than any animal in my circle of acquaintances. He never gives up. I was a bit concerned that the Beaver 'hogged' all the lines in the movie, but there was a good subplot with the teenage son who was ghostwriting a speech for a girlfriend. The wife character, Meredith, has an interesting job of roller coaster designer. I am told that there was a movie out way before my time on a related topic called "Mr Jones" where Richard Gere plays a man with bipolar disorder. Bipolar is another name for 'manic depression' and patients are often considered to be on emotional roller coasters.
The Beaver is not an animal movie intended for children. The theme is so serious that the humorous aspects aren't really Laugh Out Loud in my opinion. But, I did chuckle when Walter brushed the Beaver's teeth. And leave it to this beaver to get his moment of fame in the story. He even got to meet Jon Stewart. Oh if I could just get my own press coverage....

In the story of the naming of the animals I explain my position as CEO of Parker Industries Limited and I take you on a tour of our physical fitness facility. I introduce all my animal employees.
