Books by and about park rangers.

Almost everyone who enjoys the out-of-doors has probably wished at one time or another that he or she could be a park ranger. It is a great career, but I can verify from personal experience that like any other, it does have its moments!

Read about the lighter side of work as a ranger in the book Hey Ranger! True Tales of Humor and Misadventure from America's National Parks. Details about this book are available at http://www.heyranger.com. The sequel, Hey Ranger 2 - More True Tales of Humor and Misadventure from the Great Outdoors, was released in May 2007.

If you wonder what could possibly go wrong on a trip to a nice, safe spot like a national park, the answer is - more than you could possibly imagine! The real-life characters in this book are everyday Americans whose trip to the park simply took an unexpected turn. While some of these folks have a narrow escape, everyone survives in the end, and the result is a light rather and informative read.

A search of sites such as Amazon.com will turn up a number of other books by and about park rangers. Information on a few of them are included below.

The writer Edward Abbey wrote his famous "Desert Solitaire" describing his life as a seasonal ranger for the Aches National Park in Utah. I think you would enjoy reading it, too!
