Parrot Care...

This lense is dedicated to two groups of people. Group number one has a parrot at home and wonders about the strange behavior that he or she may be displaying. Group number two is thinking about adopting a parrot as a pet for their home and is looking for additional information on parrots.

Well, both groups of people have come to the right place for information .This lense is all about parrot care! All about giving you the best information that you need to properly take care of your parrot if you already have one, and giving you the information that you need about parrots if you are on the fence about getting one...or two! (Hopefully, I can push you over to the adoption side!)

I know you are wondering why I keep saying adoption of a parrot. I say that because that is exactly what it is! When you decide to ADOPT a parrot, they become like part of the family. And these animals are not like dogs because parrots have been known to outlive their owners! Some parrots have lifespans of 75 years! That being said, you will have no worries in the longevity department, but when it comes to parrot care, there are a few things that you will need to know. Read on...

Parrot Care Info...

There are three things to consider BEFORE you decide to adopt your parrot. These three things are the same as most pets except that parrots require a little bit more special attention when it comes to that last thing. Those three things are :
food, water and space.

1. Food - Food for any other animal is pretty basic. You go to the petstore, and you buy a bag of food. But for a parrot it's a little more involved. Just because they are birds don't assume that seeds is the only thing that they eat. This is FAR from the case. Just like you, parrots need a well balanced diet! Along with seeds, they require fruits and vegetables, protein from different meats, and cheeses. Yes! Parrots will eat meat and cheese! (Parrots will eat just about anything if you let them!)

2. Water - Enough said! ALL pets require a fresh supply of drinking water!

3. Space - Here's the kicker. Like I said before, don't just assume that because the parrot is a bird that you can just give him seeds and everything will be fine. The same goes for the space that parrots need. Some parrots, especially macaws will require larger spaces than a regular birdcage, and thats when an aviary comes into play. For the uninformed out there, an aviary is a specially designed birdcage where the parrot will be able to grow and thrive. Unlike a regular birdcage, an aviary is a lot LARGER and coincidentally, a lot more money. But this is one of the things that some parrots will need to properly grow. If not, they will quickly outgrow the cage and half of their feathers will be sticking out of the birdcage! ( Not a pretty picture!)

Now this is where most parrot owners will try to save themselves a little money, but in my opinion, whats the problem? First if all, parrots are not cheap. The cheapest parrot will cost you upwards of 1000 dollars, and if you have 1000 dollars to spend on a bird, then why spend 50 bucks on a birdcage that you know he or she will outgrow later in life? You might as well spend the extra money that its gonna cost to keep your parrot healthy and happy so he will be able to live a long life. That's why you bought him anyway, isn't it?

Look, when it comes proper parrot care, there are a lot of things involved. But I can direct you to the one website that I know of that can give you ALL of the information that you need concerning parrots. This website is totally dedicated to parrots.
