"Yes I am a pirate, 200 years too late..." This might be a familiar line to you, even if you're not a parrothead. And, if you have no idea what a parrot head is to start with, let me see if I can use this lens to fill you in. It's not all parties and drinking. Okay, that may be a big part of it - but, it's a state of mind and our purpose is to give back - to leave things better than we found them. And, along the way, you make some really good friends and discover some really good music. Fins up and follow along, I'll try to show you my "One Particular Harbour".

Parrotheads

Just who are they and why are they dressed like that?

It's rather easy to spot a parrothead - especially if you happen to show up at a Jimmy Buffett Concert about 6 to 10 hours before showtime and walk around the parking lot. There you will see about everything imaginable (and some things you never could have imagined). Yes, the standard RV's used for tailgating are there, and there are usually lots of grills...but, there also will be beaches (yes, real sand ones) and swimming pools and parrots and sharks and lots and lots of grass skirts, not to mention a full size life guard chair at this year's show. Oh, and possibly also some adult beverages. Yes, we have a reputation it seems for alcohol intake - but there is more than that. The most consistent message across the country for Parrotheads is to leave things better than we found them and we all strive to do that as much as we can. Be that with raising money for charities, or donating time to service organizations, or with activities such as roadside or beach clean up days - we're trying to do our part and to party with a purpose. If you have a chance to check out a ParrotHead meeting in your area, you should see what we're all about. Charities such as Save The Manatee, the American Cancer and Heart Associations, and Planet Gumbo are among the many that already know who we are.

Greetings fellow Parrothead! I've been a JB fan since the 70's. I grew up in S Florida and went to Key West so many times... "A Pirate Looks at 40" is one of my favorites!

Very nice topic, very attention-catching. Only suggestion is to add another 2 modules of content - research on some aspect or off-shoot. Might helps your lensrank. I'll come back and look again.
