So, I've always had a fondness for Jimmy Buffett. Then I attended my first concert. It was at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH and it was fabulous. After that, I started doing research (surprised? then you haven''t been paying attention to the way my mind works!) and I found websites filled with information on the man, concert dates and parrothead clubs.

I've made many wonderful friends along the way through my parrothead associations and have attended many more concerts. Not to mention getting the art of a great tailgate down to a science.

One of the most important things I have done though is embrace the parrothead that has always been inside me. Yes, we through marvelous parties and drink copious amounts of festive adult beverages. But we also donate thousands of man hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars to all types of charities and causes. An we have a blast while we're doing it. Kinda makes ya want to find a club and join us, doesn't it?

It's rather easy to spot a parrothead - especially if you happen to show up at a Jimmy Buffett Concert about 6 to 10 hours before showtime and walk around the parking lot. There you will see about everything imaginable (and some things you never could have imagined). Yes, the standard RV's used for tailgating are there, and there are usually lots of grills...but, there also will be beaches (yes, real sand ones) and swimming pools and parrots and sharks and lots and lots of grass skirts, not to mention a full size life guard chair at this year's show. Oh, and possibly also some adult beverages. Yes, we have a reputation it seems for alcohol intake - but there is more than that. The most consistent message across the country for Parrotheads is to leave things better than we found them and we all strive to do that as much as we can. Be that with raising money for charities, or donating time to service organizations, or with activities such as roadside or beach clean up days - we're trying to do our part and to party with a purpose. If you have a chance to check out a ParrotHead meeting in your area, you should see what we're all about. Charities such as Save The Manatee, the American Cancer and Heart Associations, and Planet Gumbo are among the many that already know who we are.
