Going Green Doesn't Mean Giving Up Clean

I have strived over the past several years to become "greener" and use more natural products in my home for cleaning. One such product I have found that works very well is Parsley Plus All-Purpose Cleaner.

One of the leading all-purpose kitchen cleaners in the UK is Flash.

Both products are used for the same cleaning purposes.

From my experience, Parsley Plus is far superior.

Parsley Plus vs Flash

Side by Side Comparison

Ingredients

Parsley Plus:
Purified water, biodegradable coconut based surfactant (Does not contain SLS), and parsley essence

Flash:
aqua, c9-11 pareth-3, sodium cumenesulfonate, sodium palm kernelate, parfum, sodium carbonate, sodium citrate, sodium diethylenetriamine pentamethylene phosphonate, butoxydiglycol, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, dipropylene glycol, colorant, glutaral, benzisothiazolinone, sodium hydroxide, alpha-isomethyl ionone, butylphenyl methylpropional, citronellol, geraniol, hexyl cinnamal, linalool

Precautions

Parsley Plus:
Keep out of reach of children.

Flash
Keep out of reach of children. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. After use, rinse hands thoroughly. In case of damaged skin, avoid prolonged contact with the product.

Animal testing

Parsley Plus:
Not tested on animals and no animal ingredients.

Flash:
Uses animal testing "as a last resort" according to their policies. It does not define what "last resort" means.

Smell

I tested this by removing the cap from each and taking a 2 second smell.

Parsley Plus:
This smells like cut fresh parsley or mown grass

Flash
This had a soapy odour that left an unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth after smelling that lingered for several minutes.

Use

Parsley Plus:
Spray onto surface to be cleaned and wipe with a lint free cloth or damp sponge. Be sure to spot test all surfaces in an inconspicuous area prior to use.

Can be used on countertops, appliances, microwave ovens, floors, ceramic tile, and any other surface not harmed by water.

Flash:
Must be diluted 60 ml product in 5 litres of water before use. Can be used neat but surface must be rinsed after.

Use dilute on painted and varnished surfaces. If in doubt, always test on a small, inconspicuous area before use.

Cleaning ability

Parsley Plus:
It is very good at general cleaning. Parsley Plus can also be used to clean paint work on walls and railings.
Downside:
It's not so great at cutting through grease and extra needs to be applied. Or, use something else - I recommend plain water mixed with borax to make a paste for really tough grease. Add a small amount of coarse sea salt for a mild abrasive cleanser.

Flash:
It is very good for general cleaning in the kitchen. It can cut through most grease. Used dilute to clean floors and tiles and some painted surfaces.
Downside:
It has a strong soapy smell and it has to be rinsed off after use.

Cost

I compared online prices for both.

Parsley Plus:
500ml = £2.89
17 ounces = $4.75 (American)
It is available in bulk sizes as well

Flash:
1L = £1.96
It is available in bulk sizes as well

Green cleaning is great but dont loose sight of the fact that all the cleaners you use are chemicals. and that many of the so called natuaral cleaners (they are all natural as opposed to supernatural)are just as deadly, toxic and dangerous as the name brands. try eating borax or many of the others and you'll end up just as dead. so trading the grease cutting power and the disinfectant properties for a nice smell sometimes just isn't smart. Green is good - and actually it just makes sense. Why use an extreme chemical when you don't really have to? Plus most of the chem cleaners smell terrible to me. I have a natural citrus one I like. I haven't seen the parsley one around, but I will definitely look - I LOVE parsley! One of my fave herbs.

I've never tried either of these, but do like to use earth and pet friendly cleaners. We use a lot of Simple Green, and I also love Amway's Liquid Organic Cleaner (LOC) which has been around for more than 30 years. Very nice lens... blessings to you.

Good lens. I'm more concerned with health. I think the whole green thing goes a little bit far in the scare tactics department

    I'll have to try these!

We have been "green" at our house for more than 20 years. We use Simple Green..and try to avoid weird chemicals. 5* lens.

Going green is usually the healthiest option, and that is my first concern. Less pollution is a great big bonus (and also healthier!).

    Excellent!
