Because private language schools operate after regular school hours, teachers work different hours from public school teachers: working from 2pm - 9pm is common for older kids while kindergarten hours can be 9am - 6pm. The main advantage of teaching at private schools instead of public schools will appeal to those who wish to travel and explore Korea: if you work at night and in the afternoons, you have the morning available to go out and explore during the regular daytime (and daylight) hours. There are some other advantages to teaching in private schools, too, which are explained below. About the Country South Korea is a very well developed country, with many multi-million cities, an excellent transportation network and much natural beauty in the country's many mountainous areas. As a unique culture and language teachers are definitely in for an adventure and a discovery of a country very different from the English-speaking nations of the Western world. Teachers have vacation days allowing them to explore the country and see the main tourist attractions, amongst which are some world class beaches in the south and plenty of outdoor activities in the rugged countryside. About Teaching in Korea Besides teaching an after-school schedule rather than a daytime schedule, there are some other significant differences between teaching in private schools versus public schools. Whereas in a public school you'll be the only foreign teacher, in private schools there are usually multiple foreign teachers and support staff - for new arrivals this is usually a comforting idea, as you won't be alone in a new environment. Also, you will teach small classes since the group size in private schools is typically only up to 15 students. The salaries in private schools are roughly similar to those in public schools, or even a little higher depending on the job and your qualifications. Also, just like public school teachers, you receive one month's worth of pay as severance upon completion of your contract. Airfare and accommodation are also provided. As a foreign teacher you pay very little in taxes: between 4-7% (Canadian and Irish citizens only - citizens of other countries don't pay any tax). The cost of living in Korea is fairly low, and generally you'll be able to save a decent chunk of your salary to take home upon your return. We have positions in the most well known metropolitan cities like Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Ulsan, Gwangju, Daejon and Deagu as well as in all provinces and many smaller towns and cities around the country.
